Open Question: What can i do to make my connection better for Xbox Live?

My connection is usually good for Xbox Live but whenever the ACT light comes on,on my router my connection gets really bad and lags. When the light is off it has really good connection. Is there anything i could do that could help my connection stay good all the time?
