  • Fence spikes. Avoid hitting services?

I am going to put up a 4ft fence at the front of my sons house. Only a small garden about 3.5m x 2.5m. Because he lives about 70 miles away I want to do it quickly so am thinking of using fence spikes instead of concrete etc. The question is, what is the risk of hitting any gas or electric which comes in at front of the house. (water and telephone come from rear of house). Spikes are about 24" / 600mm. Do the services always run in a straight line? Are they likely to be shallower than 600mm.Any advice please?

They shouldn't be any shallower than 600mm, but I am sure there is a reg that says theu should be *at least* 600mm.
There is always the possibility that they have been moved by a home-owner or builder at some point though.

Utility lines don’t always run in a straight line and can sometimes be shallower than expected, so it’s worth checking with local services before installing fence spikes. Some homeowners also add wall spikes for extra security—they're easy to install and provide an effective deterrent.

I’m currently looking for a reliable fence installation company in Vero Beach, FL and wanted to see if anyone here has recommendations. I need a team that’s professional, experienced, and delivers high-quality results without overcharging.

Have you recently tried any reliable fence installation vero beach? Which company did you use, and how was the overall experience? Were they on time and communicative? Did they handle permits and clean up the site properly after the job was done?

I’m open to wood, vinyl, or aluminum, just looking for something durable that looks great too. Also curious about warranties and did your installer offer one?
