  • How to drive the 2015+ GT-R fast around corners

There's no doubt that this car is fast in a straight line, but what's the secret to pushing it around a corner?

I had my first track day (Thunderhill East bypass) with the GT-R (2016 Black Edition, stock suspension, 285 square Advan Apex) over the weekend.

The weight transfer made me uncomfortable.

I understand that the GT-R was engineered to drive the tires into the ground, but this feels like a lot.

You can see in this photo how the side skirt is almost touching the ground, mid corner. The feeling wasn't exactly confidence inspiring.
So, what am I missing? Should I just push it harder? Should I add sway bars? Should I do both?

I'm looking for some middle ground where I can still take the car on 1,500 mile road trips with the wife, and track it confidently on the weekends.

My more immediate planned upgrades include (as I see them):
    • Brake fluid to Castrol SRF
    • Alcon rotors and Ferodo pads
    • Some R compound tires (R888Rs maybe)
    • Sway bars (maybe?)

    Long term upgrades include:
    • Suspension (Litchfield's road and track suspension)
    • Trans cooler

To sum up, I essentially have two questions:

    1) How to drive a mostly stock 2015+ GT-R fast around corners?
    2) Should I even bother with lessening this weight transfer, and if so, how (immediate and long term)?

I'm open to hearing any other suggestions you guys might have.

    Thanks!

I found trail braking into corners helps rotate the car better, especially in tighter turns. Also made sure to stay smooth on throttle mid-corner to keep the AWD system balanced.

I ran into a similar issue with understeer until I started playing with tire pressures and learning how much speed I could carry into the turn without unsettling the car. Also made sure the workshop had a decent hoist setup—found one through astrolift.co.nz that worked great and made suspension tweaks easier. Small changes in camber made a big difference for me.
