  • beefing up forearms...

i've been trying to get big forearms like forever. some of the things i use are wrist rollers, leverage bars, and all sorts of excercises with dumbells/barbells/cables. anyway, some people say you only need to work the forearms like once or twice a week. but other people, including bruce lee, say that you should work forearms everyday. so whats the best thing to put some size on?

three times a week with the rest of your workout should be fine. forearm training was a kind of obsessive compulsive disorder for bruce. I think if he didn't do them everyday he would probably go on a killing spree. If you work them everyday then all you are doing is making yourself tired. If you do it at most three times a week then you are getting the workout and then giving your muscles time to heal and build up. You must be going for that popeye look lol.

lol yeah it would be sweet to have popeye forearms. also, powerful forearms are a MUST in grappling. genetically i have crappy forearms, so i have to put extra effort into them.

anything that takes 6 months to recover from has to be bad for you. Shoot I bet most car crash victims recover faster.

yeah thats what i was thinking. anyway, if you wanna look, the website is "http://www.mindnmuscle.com/forearms.htm". look under the "There is a price to pay for massive forearms" heading.

try deadlifts.. it improves your grip-strenght quite nicely, and is good for a lot of other things too..

You might lose muscle symmetry though.

Grip work three times a week but never do the same exercise twice in the week. And keep grip session short and sweet.
                      Exemple:

                      Day 1
                      Reverse Curls
                      Wrist Curls
                      Wrist Roller

                      Day 2
                      Finger Tips push-ups
                      plate pinch lifting
                      Hammer Levering

                      Day 3
                      Farmer Walk

do finger tip push-ups make your forearms grow?

i heard they were mostly for wrist and finger strength.

Yeah it's true, but as you are a fighter, wrist and finger strength will bereally useful. If you only want to add mass and not grip power just drop the fingertips pushups and the plate pinch lifting.

Plate pinch lifting : take two plates and put them together with the smooth sides of each plate facing OUT. Then, using one hand, grip the plates by using your thumb on one side and your other four fingers on the opposite side of the plates. Lift the plates up off the ground and hold them in the air as long as you can.
