tell me what you think guys. i'm aiming at optimal athlethic fitness with an emphathsis on combat/self defense/street fights ect..

before breakfast i do a half hour of cardio to lower my bodyfat count, either a 15 minute jog on my treadmill followed by a 15 minute walk while juggling and a gentle stretch or just a half hour walk. or maybe 10 run 20 walk it depends on my energy levels you know.

then 30 mins of with kick technique and application, balance exerices, leg stretches.

30 mins of punch technique and application, shadow box

    cardio

4, 3 minute rounds of skipping

i ride my bike fast right after for about 4 minutes to a park by my house and i run for endurance and practice my footwork for awhile. 10 minutes some days an hour other days.

    stretch

    thats my morning workout...

at 5 o clock i start a strength workout that lasts about 40 minutes usually

    consisting of

push ups (20) one minute rest/ gentle stretch...
flutter kicks (approx one minute)one minute rest/ gentle stretch...
one footed calf raises (15)one minute rest/ gentle stretch...
crunches spaced with situps (25)one minute rest/ gentle stretch...
alternate squats and jumping squats (20)one minute rest/ gentle stretch...
i do these 5 exercises again and when i finish my jumping squats, i rest for one minute and do the rountine again maxing out the reps for each exercise with no rest. this is fairly intense..

    i go outside

chin ups one minute rest/ gentle stretch
pull ups one minute rest/ gentle stretch
chin ups one minute rest/ gentle stretch
pull ups one minute rest/ gentle stretch
chin ups one minute rest/ gentle stretch

light skipping. one footed skipping. towards the end i turn it up and burn out pretty good.

depending on energy levels i run up to a 20 minute endurance run and 10 minute walk or i interval training speed running with 5 minutes of fast running, 5 minutes walking, 5 minutes fast running, 5 minutes walking, 5 minutes fast running, 5 minutes walking
or 5 minute fast run spaced with 5 minutes of walking

some days i will spar my little brothers and their friend (8) (13) (14) years old and theyre tough kids. i take it easy on my little brother. but when i take on the 13 year old and his friend at the same time. its a battle. i learn some things from this. we beat each other up pretty good. its about an even match. im 18 by the way.

    stretch

my calculated time is usually around 4 hours and 10 minutes to 4 and a half hours. more or less certain days..

some days.. not often due to the strain it puts on me hindering my other other agendas i alternate my strength program and load up my dad weights and do curls. bent back rows. bench press. squats. bar over head. a few calf raises. punch with the dumbells. a few different arm ones i dont remember.

i know that my martial arts training is limited as i am unemployed at the moment and without an automobile. i want to take muay thai, boxing(limited sparing, i want to reserve my braincells and just learn technique) learn a chinese art from a genuine school, and do aikido to refine the principal of harmony in my physical and intended movement, as well as other things. eventually doing some groundwork and whatever else i need to balance me. right now im basically trying to get into a peak physical form while i work the process of getting some money and a car (alot of shit happened and i ended up broke at my parents house) so i can take the classes, learn more. even though theres a tae kwon do school near my house that i might check out for the time being to learn some kicks and have some fun. i want to learn to concentrate among other people and spar.

i see so much represented in a physical fight and i really like to do this. i want to dedicate myself to the martial arts to challenge myself physically and mentally. if you seasoned veterans have any modifications or adjustments or general advice its much appreiciated. i know that my strength program is weak. but it does challenge my body, and although the exercises arent of the best quality. its allright for now. but i would like to change this soon. concentrating on better more strenuous movements, alterating upper body center and lower body to build an endurance of my strength. i dont know. what do you think?

You want a critique, eh? OK, fool!

You're doing too much at once and not allowing your muscle tissues the time to recuperate and rebuild. A good program usually trains different muscle groups on different days to allow for that to happen (e.g. Monday = upper body, Tuesday=cardio, Wednesday=lower body, Thursday=cardio, Friday= upper body, Saturday=cardio, etc...)

Medical studies have shown that testosterone blood levels are highest very early in the day (4:00 to 5:00 am). That is the best time to do strength training. Cardio is also more efficient as far as depleting fat stores in your body after you've fasted for about 8 hours (again early morning for most people).

You mention your energy levels as a determining factor of how much or how hard you train. Beware of that. While a lackluster workout is better than none, intensity is the only way you'll get noticeable results.

A good training program, done with the correct level of intensity, should only take about one hour per day. Do that early in the morning, shower, have a good, low-fat, high-protein breakfast and get a job. After work, go to martial arts classes. Many towns have YMCA or Police Athletic League or Parks and Rec programs that offer Karate, Tae Kwon Do or Boxibng classes at very reasonable rates.

Finally don't forget the importance of proper nutrition (low-fat, high-protein, lots of water) and plenty of rest (minimum 8 hours of sleep per day).

    Good Luck!

i used to have these supposedly divine revelations on various drugs. one time i drank a bottle of robotussin (720mg's dxm) and i was convinced that the reason theres only 2 effective known cough suppresents on this earth(dxm and opiates, which have a much higher abuse potential) is no mistake. a clever scheme by the the chi in the sky a middleground to transcend ourselves to an awareness of our true nature. i cried tears of happiness as i danced around the room naked. at some point i fell asleep. i woke up. i didnt have much memory of what happened, it is now almost completely obsolete. what did i learn? drinking cough syrup impairs memory.

LMFAO!! How 'bout that? I've been trying to carry on an intelligent discussion with a drugged-up hallucinating zombie! Last time that happened I was at Ozzfest!

Justin, try to lay off the drugs, they're all bad, baad! Get plenty of rest and get a job. Love your parents and try not to give them reasons to worry.
I'll pray for you and them.

DXM is pretty safe. There are a few ways you can do this but I dont recommend the seperation way. Lighter fluid and amonia are just not something you should be screwing with. But I got a hold of some crystals a while ago and they worked pretty well. If I remember correctly I took about 750 mg and was on a very high 3rd plateau possibly 4th. I am completly convinced that I was having out of body experiences.

Was fun that time but also scared me. Dont think I will ever try that again. But I think you are right about the memory. And this is just the opinion of a stupid druggy. There are a lot of drugs out there, many of them are very dangerous but many of them are pretty safe if you are responsible with them. My favourite thing I have tried as of yet are mushrooms cause acid is impossible to find a reliable source that I trust. But shrooms are very safe if you do them in spurts. My first time I split a half quarter with someone and was pretty chewed, no visuals though. The last time I did 5 grams I believe, I was pretty high but the shrooms we used were shitty.

Anyway, again, this is only my opinion but drugs actually help a lot of people. They make you look at problems in a different light. I am pretty convinced I would be dead by now if I hadnt started smoking pot.

Some people just can't handle it, or they go too far and burn one too many gray cells. And the trip, you know, is all in your head.

Allen Ginsberg once went to India and shared some acid with some "holy men" he met there. Buddhist monks, or something. Their response to him afterwards was that meditation was infinitely better.

Being 18 w/out a car must stink. Lay off the drugs. They can be addictive, especially at a young age. Even worse is when they carry through into your later years. You'd be suprised how many middle age, upper middle class professionals use or abuse illegal or controlled substances. They look like average folks, but snort crack, pop funny pills and smoke Indo. Do yourself a favor and stop the pill poppin.

Looks like you are doing too much too soon. Cut your training time from 4 hours to 1.5 or 2 hrs max. I wouldn't recommend training in aikido; instead do Japanese jujitsu.

Try sparring people of different sizes/strength levels. One of the guys I used to work with was a former power lifter turned boxer who had a good 40 lbs on me; another one whom i'm currently working with is an amateur kickboxer with a few wins. Teaches you how to deal with different styles, like brawlers vs. long distance fighters.

                  Good luck with your training.

                    Hey Soupman,

When I was 18 I didn't have a car. I went to the local college and to work by bus for about a year. Relied heavily on the kindness of friends and family who recognized that I was trying my best and wasn't blowing what little cash I had on drugs.

I feel sorry for the kid, but I'm also disgusted. And I feel for the parents.

Shit happens, but you don't have to lay in it.

"Allen Ginsberg once went to India and shared some acid with some "holy men" he met there. Buddhist monks, or something. Their response to him afterwards was that meditation was infinitely better."

i agree that a sober meaningful existance is desirable, but its also a fantasy for alot of us from the "civilized world"

once upon a time a kid from coorporate america was born. some time went by, he was subjected to alot of negativity and the general ignorance of our times, by his parents, by his school, by his experiences. he became very depressed and threw out the idea of being happy. he started to do various psychedelic drugs. mushrooms, marijuana, acid, ecstasy, ketamine, dxm, 2cb. mainly out of boredom. he came to a conclusion which he later realized was shared by every major religion and their followers. that there is a reason and purpose of the universe, life, our existance. alot of this reality is unfathomable for me. i realize and understand my ignorance. but its understandable. kids tricked into a state of perpetual circles around society. now he knows he is an animal. he sleeps outside when its warm. he is kind to his fellow man. he has control over his emotions. he loves everybody and everything. he is inspired. he is one with nature. he is making a steady and continuous effort towards self improvment, of the body, of the mind. martial arts is the path of ancient "natural" man. martial arts is a link to our past. martial arts is a part of us. he concludes drugs had alot to with his development, they were able to calm him down, so he could think clearly, think about more then himself, dissolve his ego, see the mind of everybody.

he used to be told of the evils of drug use. but now he knows otherwise. he has established his own opinion through his experience, drugs were positive. not bad. good.

but this is a martial arts fourm. why are you rambling about drugs? for those of us who ask ourselves that question. why am i talking about drugs? well. because i wanted to get my post back to the top of the fourm, so more people would look at it thus increasing my chances of feedback. so shut up about drugs you dick. okay. im done now. my post is back on top. i have succeeded once again.

                        Reality Check:
                        1. You're a spoiled stupid self-indulgent brat living off your parents and unable to support yourself and be truly "natural" by being self-sufficient. A real martial artist does not enburden those who love him.

                        2. If you're any kind of an animal, you're a leech. Get a job!

                        3. You're a burn-out useless drug addict living in your own little fantasy world of self-justification.

                        4. Martial arts is indeed a link to our past. An ugly violent part of our past (and our present and, regretably, probably our future). We study it and become proficient in it in order to keep it under control. All the other esoteric b.s. is not really related or revelant. You could study eastern and/or western philosophy and religion and never involve yourself in anything martial (what fighting style does the Dalai Lama practice?).

                        5. I'm rambling on about drugs because you went off topic and brought up the subject of drug use after I responded to your request of a critique on your training regimen.

                        6. Drug abuse has indeed addled your brains. You self-perception is false because of it. You're in no condition to make this sort of judgement on your own.

                        7. Get clean and straight and sober and humble, apologize to your parents for what you've put them through and GET A JOB.

Infinite Light, you sound like a walking pharmacy.

If certain drugs were meant to be taken, they'd be legal and/or approved by the FDA and the FDA scrutinizes ingestible man-made substances. They break up their drug approval process into 3 seperate phases and to test how the drug metabolizes, its efficacy, efficiency and side effects. Furthermore, they collect data from over 1,000s of trials. The whole process takes about 8 years before a drug is approved; drugs that can treat fatal diseases that are otherwise untreatable (or cost $$$ for care) get early approval (4-5 years). Last but not least, the FDA approves drugs only if the benefits outweight its side effects. If those hallucinogens were good at doing anything beneficial, they'd been approved long ago.

Ok, so your car got taken away (i take it was related to a run in with the law or discipline). Do you know how much time it takes the average person to save enough to get a car? Usually a year. How long did it take you to loose it?
If you want a car again, your gonna have to lay off the funny stuff so you can work and earn. Companies aren't stupid; they test your urine and hair randomly.

Once you get straight, stay straight.
