  • Am I doing these wrong???

Hey, I was doing Hindu pushups for part of my workout, when I noticed I was doing them wrong. You are supposed to keep your feet flat on the ground with your butt way up in the air (at the start), and then you dive down and keep your legs straight, and then after diving, you continue pushing forward and arch your back and look at the ceiling. Your arms which are straight, are supposed to stay this way I believe, and you return to the original starting position this way, I believe.

The "wrong" way I was doing them was start as I said, but then you reverse the pushup and just reverse the arch and dive; basically, completely reverse the original motion. I found this to be a lot more difficult. I can make 50 Hindu pushups easy the supposed right way, but only 20 the wrong way; thing is, I can't do 50 reg pushups easy. Which bugs me because aren't Hindu pushups supposed to be a lot more difficult than reg. pushups???

    Please help

That "Wrong way" you're talking about is a far better way. It works the shoulders more, and gives the triceps twice as much to do. Its often called the "Dive Bomber". Keep at it.

This sounds similar to the japanese push-ups used in Judo. I agree with Bri, it may be that you have a variation of the Hindu push-up

Ahhhh, okay, cool thanx was wondering about that. Yeah, the "dive-bomber" way really kills the triceps and shoulders.

Its a great exercise that not only mimics fighting style mnoves, it also works the whole body in unison (unlike traditional weight training).

Yeah, I read an article by a guy who said exactly what I thought; calisthenics are very good, just for stuff like strengthening the lower back out very greatly, weights tend to be the best since no calisthenic moves can really directly stengthen that area.

Here is a neat site: http://www.powerathletesmag.com/pages/muscleup.htm

            It tells about muscle-ups.
