  • LightWeight Fighter's Training?

    I was wondering if there is a specific weight training program for lightweight fighters, preferably a body type like Genki Sudo, who is a light weight fighter in BJJ, i think thats how all light weight fighters look, judging by the appearance of lightweight Muay Thai fighters. So, anyone got anything?

    Are you naturally a lightweight or are you trying to drop a few pounds to fight at lightweight? You need to get a lot more specific.

      Maybe you should put him on your Tibet-Holiday Inn training program! Training in all that thin air.

        im 13, i weigh 117 pounds im pretty skinny but cant see my abs and stuff which i think is normal for my age. I've lost a lot of weight and become much skinnier, plus ive put on some good muscle on the upper half of my body.

        Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, Friday

        3x ?- Pull ups, shoulder width palms facing me (modular assist??)
        3x ?- Pull ups, wide grip palms facing away (modular assist??)
        4x15- Push ups, little bit more then shoulder width
        3x ?- Dips (modular assist??)
        3x20- Squats. weightless
        3x20- Lunges. weghtless

        Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays
        Running 15-20 minutes

        I was wondering, since people on the thread called: I need some help with my workout, said that this kind of routine will get me cut, does this mean that ill have a bodytype like Genki Sudo, or other lightweights or is there a different kind of training, because the lightweight look is the one that im going for.

          This is a good resistance program which will build your overall body strength. You shouldn't compare your physique to Sudo's...you're 13 and won't finish filling out until you're about 23 so I'd put your physique on the back burner.

          If you train hard with good technique, your body will build itself naturally. You will develop good muscular definition and a good base of strength.

          Keep doing what you're doing, but allways consult a physician first.

          Some ways to challenge yourself once you can bust out 20 body weight pull-ups and 50 body weight pushups.

          - Add another set. This will build your muscular endurance, your ability to be strong over a longer period of time.

          - Change the speed. If you do pushups or pullups explosively (with good form) you will develop fast twitch fibers necessary for speed. If you do them slowly, you will increase your muscular denisty.

          Cut your resistance routine down to Monday, Wednesday, Friday (3x per week). Keep your running routine where it is.

          You need a day or 2 of rest.

            i wasnt really comparing myself just saying that like i'm at the point where i need to choose a path, and the genki sudo body type is at the end of the path that i want to choose, will this routine get me there??
            oh yeah and when i say Tuesday or Wednesday, i meant i do the workout on either one or the other day because sometimes i cant go to the gym on wednesdays

            also, i do some curls and back exercises on mondays.

              Maybe.

              I understand you are focusing on your goal, but don't forget that your body may or may not be like Genki Sudo's once you reach year early 20's. So many things can change in your body betwen the age of 14 to 23; most of it will happen between the ages of 17-21.

              You might end up being taller than Genki Sudo or heavier than him. I'd recommend that you keep your focus on giving 100% on your workouts and taking care of yourself now and letting the rest take care of itself.
