  • Bodyweight Exercises for Back

Other than pull-ups, what else can be done for the back?

Do Hindu Push-ups work the back at all (since you have to arch your back and all that)?

Pullups are all you need for your back man. You just vary the grips, and if you need more weight, hold a dumbell in between your shoes.

You can also do lever pullups, L-pullups, and muscle-ups too.

I think I should have phrased the question differently. I think that Pull ups are by far the greatest exercise for your back.

I switched shifts at work and now I pretty much can only work out at home. Right now, I don't have access to anything for pullups and I'm not going to install a pull-up bar here because I'm moving from this house in a month. Therefore, I wanted to find a different exercise for my back muscles right now. I was thinking of bridges?

I'm confused because I always used weights before, but I'm getting close to 30 and I have pains in my body that I shouldn't have at this age.

u dont need to install a pullup bar. if u go to a sporting good store, they have ones that u just adjust to ur door or whatever, so its not permanent. u put it up when u want to use it, then take it down. there really arent many bodyweight workouts for ur back to be honest. weights is ur best way.

Yeah, I'd agree, pullups ARE the bodyweight exercise for the back. Otherwise, you need like weights or something. Bridging will arch the lower back and work the legs and the shoulders and triceps of the arms, but not the back.

Bridging will work your back out well too. Just arch your body and hold your arms out straight and your back will be scorched before you know it.

Work the negatives on your pushups.

I learned those in my brief stint with capoeira, those pushups rock you like nobody's business.

Try the freefall for your lower back.

Basically lie face down, and then raise your arms and legs so that you look like one of those guys doing a free fall parachute jump. Hold for 10 seconds, rest and repeat.
