  • Making weight for weigh in and fight same day

Hello, real quickly, this is my first MMA (official) fight, doing NHB, supposed to be fighting middle-weight which is max 174. I normally held my weight at 176, but went on vacation a few weeks back, got lazy, and stopped monitoring. I did some weights as well, which seemed to get my muscles all sorts of soaked up (i've been up to 190 before).

Now, im at 185, I have only till Saturday, which is 4 days to drop this weight. After I work out, of course thats about 5 lbs, but, im still worried about making this weight, mostly due to the fact that you weigh in, then fight in abotu an hour. So even if I could starve/dehydrate myself (which I don'ot have experience doing, and wouldn't like to), my body would be wrecked for fighting.

    CHANGES:
Right now, im cutting my carbs very low, only a cup of oatmeal for breakfast, and some rice for lunch, then im thinking of just sticking with protein and spinach / brockley. I do NOT want to catabolize however, just because I know im just going to gain more fat when I do eat. Im stepping up my cardio to three times a day, when i'd just rather let myself peak, but I slacked off from my weight, so im dealing with it.

Any advice concerning this woudl be much appreciated, im very excited for this, and have searched the internet and this forum for the weight cutting, when pretty much it is based on having 24hrs in between. Any more suggestions on top of what I posted im doing?

    Jakob,

I also had something like yours and dropped 13lbs in 3 days. I made the weight and won the wrestling tournament. What you need to do is cut carbs and increase your cardio like you planned. I did the oatmeal for breakfast and then protein for lunch and dinner with salads and chicken. do high intensity cardio. get on a bike or run at a medium pace for 4 mins, then sprint 100% for 20 seconds, rest for 10 secs and do it again for 4 mins or 8 cycles. then cool down for 4 mins. you will burn more fat this way then with regular cardio. Any type of anaerobic training is great.

Then night before your weigh-ins take a hot bath for 20-30 mins then get out and dress in sweats and go to bed. With your core temp up your body will sweat while your sleeping. I dropped almost 5 lbs my last night while i was sleeping.

The morning of weigh-ins eat nothing but after you MAKE WEIGHT drink plenty of carbs and water. I did honey (quick energy) and oatmeal and get your electrolytes back in your system with cytomax or Gatorade

Good luck and let me know if I can help anymore.
