  • Explosive Punches

If you were to choose one exercise that in your opinion developed the most explosive punches, what would you choose? Knuckle-clapping pushups, heavybag, double-end bag, regular pushups, pullups, resistance punching using cables, pushing? Anything. I'm just interested in your guys opinion on that one exercise you wont go without for developing explosive punches.

Focus mitt training! Nothing else works as well for developing distance, timing, and explosive power!

Assuming you don't have sparring partners...

        For power - Heavy Bag

For distance, timing, defense, footwork, conditioning - focus mitts.

Makawari is used for conditioning, hardening of the hands not really anything related to technique of punching, its ok strengthing your tools, but do you know how to use your tools thats the question that pops to mind!!!! it should be learn the techniques and then harden your tools to punch more harder

by the way i'm quoting the wrong person lol!!!!!!! Dumb person i am

Bagwork. The best way to get stronger faster punches is to throw lots of punches. It's like doing pushups. Want to do more pushups in one sitting? Do a lot more pushups.

I believe that karate has some great methods of strengthening the hands, wrists and forearms.

Particularly, knuckle pushups, wrist pushups, doing excercises with chi'shi.

If you hit a hard heavy bag with no wraps or gloves, it gives about the same effect as hitting a makiwara, I imagine.

just work on the heavy bag. hit the heavy bag as hard as u can with each punch, trying to generate more power than the last punch with the next. do sets of these until u are exhasted and it will increase your power greatly as well as your endurance.

I bought a heavy bag about 3 weeks ago and it is one of the best workouts that you can get. It helps you with your punching and is also a cardiovascular exercise.
