You are wrong SamGuy. At my current body condition there is no way I could win any kind of fight. I couldn't win in wrestling, boxing, mma, or anything. Why? Because I don't have the energy to do anything after 3 minutes. I don't have the strength to hit people and actually hurt them. Even if I was a master in the skill part, I don't have the body to execute anything. In your thinking, Helio Gracie could own a fighter of the same weight class but in his 20's. He can't! And I bet Helio is in much better condition than me. Helio is in his 80's btw.

Right now, I can do like 50 pushups in one spirt. Give me some time, and I can do another 50. Give me more time, and I can do like 300 all together in one night. I do them in between watching some sport event like baseball or basketball. Like during the commericals you know. Pullups and chinups, I can do like in the mid 30's in one spurt, on both. I can actually do slightly more of the ones where your wrists are facing toward the wall. I can do like 100 or more crunches in one spirt. I don't know if that means anything or not, what do your abs help with? If not just for looks. Also a good exercise to do inbetween pushups. I have been doing plyometric verticle jumps, I can do like 40-50 of those in one spirt. I have just started my running. I get major pains in my lungs and then in like my sides. I will need to measure the road I run down to get an idea of how much I run for a straight period. But I did have to walk all the way back. My running is very weak right now, but then again so was my pushups back about 6 months ago. Also I am 17 if you need to know my age. My weight remains the same at about 150 and my height as well at 5'10". The average height of my brothers is like 6'7" so if I turn out to be anything like that then I will definetly need to put some more lbs on. But LIKE I SAID, I am not interested in gaining lbs. I want to gain muscle lbs, not overall body weight. Can I not make my muscle weight percentage increase while keeping at about the same weight? Anyway, I am going to go run again and get the measurements in my car of the distance of the road I run. Running is the most important thing for me right now because it is the weakest area.

      HAHA oh boy....

you say your not in condition to fight anyone, I must be a lump then.

I can do about 20 pullups, 25 pushups, and probably about 25 good crunches in one spirt.

Mine are all with perfect form, full dead hang, body to the floor type stuff.

I'm considered to be really strong where im from too, which is alot of farmers, and im stronger than most people where I train, even some of the bigger dudes.
Believe me your not too slacking on the endurance muscle wise. You may have cardio issues, and that could be a problem, im also not sure about your pure strength such as in one movement. With squat deadlift and bench combined I can do over 5 times my bodyweight so im not sure how you compare to that. (those are the 3 powerlifting lifts BTW)

Thing is you gotta realize, not everyone is walking around as conditioned as a UFC fighter.. your probably alot better than you think conditioning wise... fighting is the most tiring/energy zapping thing you can do.

Anyone going full out for 3 minutes is gonna be pretty fucking tired whoever they are.

Also you mentioned Wanderlei silva I believe... umm.... yeah hes basically one of the best fighters in the world.. you saying you cant compete at martial arts because your not like him..... is like me saying... "oh I cant possibly play linebacker for my football team, im not nearly as good as Ray Lewis".

I think your biggest problem is your attitude... youd probably do alot better than you think. I dont know if youve gone to any classes or tried anything.. but you will see people get real tired real fast when fighting.

Maybe its because I am 150lbs that I can do that? How much do you weigh? I am so skinny I think. I mean, my arms look good. But they don't look ripped enough I think. But right now I obviously don't think it is realistic to become the same body as Wanderlei Silva. I think it is a nice goal to become that way though. Also I have never seen anyone do MMA outside of Pride or UFC so how am I supposed to know what the average fighter looks like? I am not sure of where even to go for such things as MMA training. Thats why I am doing the next best thing in joining wrestling. But I don't know anyone with my body type in wrestling. Think some really skinny basketball player. Thats me. Also, I don't know how you can lift 5 times your body weight but you can't lift your own body weight more than 25 times. More advanced people in the army regularly do like 100 or more pushups. I haven't done a bench press since my Freshman year in highschool and back then I was weak because I never did pushups every other day. Back then I could do my body weight. Now? Well we will see once I am able to access my schools weight room. But probley not to well. Also, what is a deadlift? Is that where you pick up a bar and lift it up over your head?

You think I have an attitude problem? Whats wrong with trying to be the best? I won't be satisfied. Do you think it would be better if I was happy with where I am now and not try to be better?

This is a quote from you:

"At my current body condition there is no way I could win any kind of fight. I couldn't win in wrestling, boxing, mma, or anything."

This was the problem attitude I was talking about. Saying theres no possible way you could win.

As for the 5 times body weight, once again you misinterpreted I said those 3 lifts combined is 5 times my body weight. So when I add max squat, deadlift, and benchpress and divide it by my body weight it comes out to 5 times.

The difference is in raw strength, and muscle endurance. You have greater muscle endurance, but I can produce more force in a short burst.

BTW, I way 165 pounds , but I want to get down to 154 for a grappling contest in november.

You say your tall and skinny, so you may have problems with wrestling, your right its possible, but everyone else is going to be 150 pounds, (weight divisions) so they arent going to have some huge size advantage on you. Sure they may be shorter and pack a little more muscle on, it wont really make that big of a difference because wrestling is more about technique than overall strength. Although cardiovascular conditioning plays a huge part.

          I guess thats it,

oh wait, a deadlift.... its where the bar is on the ground, you bend over, grab the bar and stand up for lack of a better description.

when your arms and legs are locked out, and you hold the weight for about a second or two. you set it back down adn there you go.

if you try to attempt this lift, just as a warning, watch form, and make sure you know proper form or you WILL hurt yourself.

          Cheers,

Once I get in to wrestling I should be given all the advice and proper training anyway. I am just wanting to get started now so I am not behind when I get in.
Also, I know I couldn't win in my current state. My brother jokes all the time and says, "Are you on the twinky and cigarette diet?" I just hope I don't have something seriously wrong with my lungs. But yes, I couldn't win a fight unless I got lucky and knocked them out in the first 3 minutes. And well, I have never actually punched someone before. So I guess I don't know if I could knock someone out.
Anyway, my current condition is about to change. Today was my first run. It hurt, but I am breaking myself in now. Soon I will able to increase my times constantly.

you know, why dont you just stick to the training part and try and improve that. improve your running distance and your muscular endurance as well as strength with those conditioning excercises. dont worry about body muscle percentage or how you look. if you ask me ability > looks. just worrying about conditioning yourself right now, and everything else will sort itself out.

Yes. So far my running has been doing good. My second run was much easier and I was able to run about 1/3 more than I did the first time. I am still doing pushups and crunches, I will add squats to my regimen as soon as I can study them and how to properly do them.

To be honest....i wouldnt bother listening to anything SamuraiGuy has to say. Every post i have read of his, he seems to offer poor advise probably trying to get people to give up like he is going to be.

My best advice to you is to do whatever you feel is best for you. If you want to gain weight and be the worst fighter possible in your division....go for it. If you want to stay at your current weight and be the worst fighter in your division....go for it. Dont let these morons get you down.

You have a future in MMA even if it is as a journeyman losing to everyone known to man.....GO FOR IT SON

I kinda agree with Samurai. This is a stupid post. Not all MMA guys are jacked or whatever. Akebano is fat, Duane Ludwig is skinny as hell. If you are 150, to get to 200 lbs is kinda stupid. Youll be really huge but probably too immobile then. Eat 6 meals a day. Lots of protein, 2 grams per body weight. Sleep 9 hours a day. Use multi vitamin. Keep Reps in your weightlifting down to 5-8. Workout atleast 5 days a week and watch out for over training.

Sounds like you are still concerned about what you look like.

You can work really hard at getting ripped. Do bodybuilding excercises with light weight, high rep schemes. Work your cardio to burn fat and burn more calories than you are consuming. The ripped look comes from having minimal body fat.

At the same time, if you don't look ripped/mean but can knock the $^!7 out of the 8lb sand filled thai pads, are hungry to learn, willing to spar and keep yourself in top shape - enjoy it.

Appreciate what you can do and improve on it.
