  • Anything wrong with running everyday?

assuming you workout mon wed fri, is it okay to do cardio all 7 days of the week? Or would the wear be too much for the muscles combined with the workout..? And this is a fair amount of cardio, not just ho hum running for 30 mins.

I did 3 to 4 miles a night for a few years. Plus I trained 6 days a week for about 4 hours a day.

I had no problems. so depending on what your goals are you may be able to do it.

as someone said might be bad for your knees, try to run on asphalt rather than concrete if you do run all the time.

And swimming is great cardio, and a great full body workout, especially in the shoulders... and isnt hard on any of your joints, just a thought.

depends, swimming can be really hard on the knees. One of my old instructors blew both his knees swimming.

As for your knees and running. Soft earth is the best, but there are people who put in more than 100 miles a week who don't have a problem.
Get good shoes and you should be fine.

Both his knees, really I cant see that happening, guess its possible though.

Mind going into how it happened... I mean... I cant imagine just swimming along and something like that happens.

as I understand it, He was a competitve swimmer. Over time his tendons became very loose which made his knees somewhat unstable. in a short time frame he had damaged both of them, although I do not know the exact details. he had surgery to fix both and had to relearn how to walk.

From then on he had to wear knee braces. Sorry that about as much as I remember. We didn't get into that all that much.

training so hard you forget how to walk.

Never though such a thing was exactly possible.

hahaha, no when you blow both knees you have to rehab until you can walk again.

                  You'll be fine.

I remember reading about the Navy Seals workout and they had you run every other day the 1st two weeks (or was it just the 1st week?) and then take the next week off. This was because statistics showed a higher incidence of shin fractures in that 2nd week because the bones did not adapt to the new workout quickly enough. The week off lets them adapt so there is less risk of injury. After that you can run as much as you want.

Anyway, look it up if you think it might be a problem.

are they running in full gear though? that adds a lot of weight and probably would result in problems.

                          Just a guess.

i hear some light cycling is good for warming up and cooling down your knees.

Yea I'm a competitive swimmer and I do Muay Thai, but unfortunately yes it is possible to blow the knees, especially if you are a breaststroker.

But I would highly reccomend swimming, not to be arrogant, but my cardio is quite a lot better then the people who run about 40km a week.

But then again I am a distance swimmer...... But yea definitely swimmming/cycling/running is the best workout. Ever wonder why the best (cardio) athletes in the world are triathletes?
