But I think you have done a great job.
I will study the things you have write and then make a choiche wich routine to use.
You are right when you say that my problem area is strength and stamina.
Give me a few weeks and then I let you know how things go.
Meanwhile, thank you very very much for helping me.
May I ask you what kind of martial arts you train and how often a week you train?
    Take care

Thank you for the kind words, I hope I've helped.

I've trained, at least briefly, in several styles but have spent the most time in jkd. I haven't really been training martial arts lately, I've been focusing on other stuff, but am getting the bug again and starting to get back into it. Recently I've been checking out some traditional schools but the more I see the more I think I will go back to jkd. Not that there's anything wrong with the traditional schools, I just think the jkd school here offers better training.

      To Aku aku

I know its hard to find a got school.
You know, when you are younger you are almost impressed by everybody.
One guy can do beautifull turning back kicks, another guy can hold his leg realy high for awhile, another guy have realy huge knuckles (but could'nt spar) etc. etc.
But when you get older you want to focus more on things you realy need.
The way I train now is completly different off the way I trained 10-10 years ago.
Then I trained to let people see what I could do.
Still, that was a good basis. Then I did cartwheels, handstands etc. and I still can do it now. Not that you can use it but its fun to do.
So the last few years I was tryiing to make a routine for a whole week (6 days) were I can do everything that a martial artist have to do.
But I dont want to train hours and hours. When you get older youve got other responsebilitys (family, work etc.).
On the other hand you have a school to run in your free time.
And these people pay to learn so I want to be in as good shape as possible to learn them all these things.
Its what Bruce Lee said: 'when you are not psychily fit you have no need to be a martial artist (or something like that, I think you know what I mean).
I dont train by a school anymore. I think I have seen enough off all these schools and maybay I am a little cocky but I think I can do it better myself.
The only problem is sparring etc. But I have a friend who is a martial artist to so we do spar and change ideas. Sometimes its hard because he is a traditional martial artist who does kata's, kumite's etc.
I have always focused on martial arts, so when they all talked about strengthtraining it was all new for me.
I always did some strengthtraining between my punching and kicking.
Now most off the people say that this is rubbisch but it works good for me.
So maybay I must think that I am diffent than other people and just do the way I always have done.
My martial arts training was much harder and longer then because off all the exercises I did between but when I did this 3 times a week it was enough.
When I felt good I did a little run on the days I didn't train.
So I always have had 3 good trainingroutines a week. The other stuff was just extra.
      Oke, have to stop now.
Hope to speak to you soon.
      Take care

      Wim

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I was out of town.

When I was younger I was easily impressed and I spent a lot of time in a lame karate class. It was free though and kept me interested for a while. These days I find I don't have the patience for, what seems like, unproductive training. Many of the traditional classes I've been to seem to take their time. You could be there for several months and still not feel like you can use anything. I went to one kung fu class for 3 months and they didn't cover basic things like moving around, basic punching combinations, self defense, etc. Most of the time was spent on forms but they never really showed how to actually use the art. I admit that 3 months isn't very long but how long should it take to learn a couple of combinations and some self defense? I think the traditional arts are great but the schools I've seen don't train them as well as they could. Conditioning is one thing that's neglected by a lot of traditional schools. There are exceptions though, I hear of some schools that seem to offer great training but they're not in this area. I would recommend reading everything you can find by Steve Cotter. He's a hsing yi guy and full contact kung fu champion. Despite practicing an internal martial art, he places a high importance on physical conditioning.

I've always done most of my training solo because I can't get to classes as often as I would like. The problem is that there are a lot of things that you can't train by yourself: grappling, reaction drills, sparring, etc. I try to train what I can, things like: conditioning/strength training, tool development, movement/footwork drills. It's frustrating without a regular training partner but I think if you can stay in good condition and develop good body mechanics and movement skills, it will help.

Sorry for rambling, I'm a little unfocused and am just putting down some thoughts.

          Hello Aku aku

          Hello Aku aku,

all the things you say are the same things that I haven done. It could be my story.
I to must train for myself. Once awhile I can do some sparring with a friend off my but most of the time i train alone.
So I try to train as good as I can with all the knowledge that I have build up true all these years.
For martial arts that works good but with strengthtraining for martial arts its different.
Because not so many people train martial arts here were I live (in Holland). I am now 45 years and most off the people call you crazy when you say that you train that much.
So most of the information of strengthtraining I get from Internet.
But there are so many people with there own thoughts about training with weights for the martial arts.
One say to do H.I.T.-training, the other say to do Static Contraction Training, low reps, high reps etc. etc.
That makes me crazy sometimes because I dont have that knowledge myself.
So I can exactly understand how you try to keep in shape.
I am just the same. Tryiing to be in good in shape as possible.
          Take care

          Wim
P.s. dont worry about rambling. I have the same problem.
