  • Swimming: The best Training

I recently talked to some of the Sports medicine people at the local hospital and I was inquiring about the best physical activity to work both your voluntary muscles and your internal organs. They told me swimming would be the best. What do you guys think?

Swimming is great for general fitness and outstanding for....well, swimming.

But it will not cover enough of what a fighter needs.

He's obviously not going to solely train via simming, it just helps a lot, any sport does really as each one uses different sets of muscles, i play a lot of football or "soccer", badminton and rugby, although it has no direct link to MA training it still helps.

I take Muay Thai and BJJ. I also take advance swimming classes at my college. Trust me on this one swimming really help improve your overall fitness. You not only use arms and legs but hips and abdominal muscles as well. With more than 12 strokes you really get a good workout.

Swimming is great for overall fitness, but does nothing to build up your legs for MT/MMA. One of my Thai boxing coaches stressed that you need to run (for distance and sprints) to be able to take shots to the thighs.

when was the last time you swam laps? lol swimming is awesome ...its no impact , anaerobic and aerobic ...its also an incredible ADDITION (notice i said "addition") to a fighters training throw it in your regime once a week and you will be better for it but dont replace running intervals or skipping rope with it ...SUPPLEMENT your routine with it . you think you can run far? try swimming a few laps and youll see what i mean

My parents live on an 18 acre lake and for fun during the summer my buddy jon and I swim all the way across it, take a break and swim all the way back. Is that a decent swim workout or not???
