I ran a mile earlier, in about 15 mins. So im a fair distance behind everyone else who's posted. But Ive never claimed to be good, and that i a guess at how far it was.
    There's allways someone better. Allways....

One of the guys in the running crew can probably run 3 miles in about a 7:00 mile pace. I'm slowing him down, by nearly a minute per mile at that distance.

There are some guys who can run a mile just under 6:00.....these people are the best runners.

I had the same problem after running my 14-minute mile. I was sooo sore, for days. Stretching didn't help, either. But then when I ran again, I wasn't as sore, and it only lasted a day. It was a nice relief because I thought I'd be that sore after working out every time. Stretching is good, drinking lots of water, and of course the way I bribe myself into going to the gym when I don't want to (if you've got a membership) is to bribe myself with hot tub time.

I am working on formulating bath salts for martial artists, and I think the final formula will be something like 1 part coarse sea salt, 1 part fine sea salt, 2 or 3 parts Epsom salts, and some ginger essential oil. Also I make my own dit da formula (let me know if you want the recipe) that helps increase circulation to sore areas and seems to work well. It is much better for bruising though.

      Keep running!!!!

the bath salt formula sounds great! and treelizard is right, jow is good for sore muscles but it excels at breaking up bruises and stagnation from impact injuries.

do you use the native american indian formulas or the chinese formulas?
i encountered some great old indian remedies in NM but you cant get the ingrediants here

PS by chance do you have a good source for green chili's? ..or herbal formulas?

I created my own formula using kitchen herbs (cayenne, mustard powder, ginger powder), some essential oils (rosemary and camphor) and the best local liniment plants I could get my hands on (camphorweed and yerba del lobo-- which I "coincidentally" happened to find huge fields of after formulating) steeped in a rubbing alcohol base for two or three weeks. It is super potent and has to be sprayed on outside (think pepper spray) but it's more effective than anything I've bought in a store (with Dr. Wu's liniment formula at a close second.) I was inspired by a lecture on mustard packs at the End of the World As We Know It Herbal Survival conference, and the school's motto, "Blood follows heat." (I also sell this stuff for $7, btw).

What ingredients are you looking for from New Mexico, by the way?

Green chilis?! It's all about chiltepines!!

Oh, and by the way--for the bath salts, I forgot to say to add baking soda...

Whoa sounds like that formula would be a potent homade self defense spray as well

i will slap together my favorite formulas and pm them to you...use them if you want, holler if you know where to find the ingrediants

              Will do.

I also make a mean creosote salve too that's good for raw hands from too much grappling and stick work... *shameless plug*

Anybody else got any sore muscle recommendations for sepukku, before I derail yet another thread into plant talk?

Tree Liz, are you a cook? We should discuss recipes. I never use exact measures, but allways rely on taste testing.

The only time I got to run recently was being chased by two roaming dogs in my Katrina ravaged neighborhood.

                  Never thought I had it

Today I did a lot of training/drills/etc. and I went to a really crappy "safety and security" seminar that I will rant about on the women's forum in a second.

Yes I love to cook, I do use recipes and then I cheat and add more garlic. Vegetarian food is my specialty, unfortunately, and now I'm supposed to be eating tons of meat, so I would love to get your recipes, Mr. Yum. I try to follow the Zone diet though (low carbs, mostly from fruits and vegetables, lots of protein, healthy fats). I also try to use TCM methodology and eat with the seasons (Elson Haas rocks).

Yesterday, I ran 4 miles straight out.

                      Mile 1 - 7:30
                      Mile 2 - 7:51
                      Mile 3 - 8:10
Mile 4 - 8:19 - this last mile was tough, really tough.

Average pace is 7:50 - something per mile. This is a slight improvement considering that my 3+ mile pace was 8:00 not long ago. Progress is slower than I'd like but I'm listening to my body.

Later this week, I'm going to run interval miles to help build my speed.

                      I'll PM you a recipe.

                        Good News

Since 1/10/06 when I broke a 7:00 (6:58) mile, I've logged 15 miles broken up in various intervals, plus 2-3 miles of swimming.

Today, my 1 mile time is down to 6:47. I ran a total of 2 miles in 14:27 - this time still sucks.

In 19 days, I've trimmed 11 seconds off of my best 1 mile time.

Assuming this constant rate of improvement (I hate assuming), It will take me approximately 60 days to get to a 6:00 mile. We're looking at sometime in April.

                        I won't be a stud until I can break a 6:00 mile or a 13:00 2 mile !!

                          6:47 is awesome!

I ran a half mile in 5:30 today. This seems like a shitty time but was actually really good because I was warming up for the first .1 or .2, because it was after working an 11 hour shift, because I'm still hella sore from the weekend, because I was/am coming down with something (unless I killed it in the sauna, hopefully) and because I actually went to the gym at all. Go me. Now I shall collapse into bed.

Hey check this out. Elliptical this morning, one mile, 8:53!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since I started at 14 min treadmill mile, I'm down about five minutes, just two more to go. I know the elliptical is slightly faster than the treadmill, but treadmilling in hiking shoes was wearing down my body a bit, so until I get running shoes, elliptical it is.

Body fat percentage down to 23.6 (down from 26% when I started). Of course, I want 15%, but YEAH!!!!!!!!!! ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
