Looking back at the last two days, today is going to be my endurance run day.

I plan on doing a 5 mile run at an 8:00 pace, then smoke the core. Despite the ton of leg work the past two days, my legs are fine; great sign that they've adjusted to the workload; its taken about 3.5 months of consistent running + bootcamp.

Friday will be a sprint day. Sprint until near puke conditions, breathe a little, then a few more sprints.

    • All right, I'll finally fess up and say I've been slacking lately. In fact, aside from pilates last Thursday, I haven't been to the gym in about a week! My diet is still going well and people keep telling me how great I look lately, but the idea of getting on the treadmill again sounds painfully boring. Was trying to vary my routine and go to aerobics classes at the gym, but I don't even break a sweat let alone get a good workout, so I'm looking at other options.

If you'd interviewed me last year, I would've told you that I HATE running. I was doing it twice a week TOPS and usually no more than 1-2 miles.

This year I am running 4-5 times per week, covering ATLEAST 3 miles.

At minimal, I do 1 mile warm-up and 2 miles of intervals (30 second sprint, 60 second jog).

If I'm feeling good, I'll do 1 mile warm-up and 3 x 1 mile intervals (no slower than 7:15 per mile).

If I'm feelin' like a stud, I'll hit 5 miles at a good steady, pace.

The Point: Its all in your head!

        • Maybe borrowing a friend's i-pod and buying new gym clothes will motivate me.

            I'm a progress motivated guy.

Run with proper form and you will progress.

Run with crappy form, and no matter how hard you train you will be feeling sore, tired, and achy.

Trust me on this...Tom is partly right when he says it's all in your head. For example, i used to have to "suck it up" on 3-5 mile formation runs. But no matter what I'd be draggin my ass at the back of the group, regardless of how much more I ran than the other guys during off time.

One year later after a knee injury, I haven't been running worth squat but I spent some time learning about running form and how it relates to preventing injury. Now I run effortlessly, even though my overall cardiovascular system is properly significantly weaker than before.

            • Change it up.

I completed a 4 mile run on the sandy beach yesterday.

Got sun tan lotion and sand in my eye, which created an interesting sensation so I had to pour water in both eyes and I lost about 5 minutes worth of train time

              I measured off a 1 mile landmark.

After the completion of each mile, I did some weave-type runs around stilts in the sand that were about 5 feet apart from each other.

How fast can you finish a 10-miler?

8:00 mile pace, I'd probably need to sit for awhile after finishing...

7:00 mile pace and you might loose me to a puke stop somewhere around 5 - 6 miles, maybe pass out near the end.

That's awesome that you're gonna race!!

                  Yesterday's workout:

                  AM

3 mile run 22:47 - so far my best time yet. I averaged about a 7:40 pace.
lunges 3 x 50 yards, jogging back after each time finished.
duck walk 3 x 25 yards, same as above.
                  jumping jacks 200 in 2:00
                  situps 2 x 50
The board 2:00 feet touching the ground, weight resting on forearms keeping back straight, not touching the ground.

                  PM

Circuit x 3 times - one excercise after the other until the circuit is done.

                  50 pushups
                  25 jacknives
                  13 wide grip pullups
                  30 dips
                  12 chinups

                  Rested 5 min.

Ran 1 mile 6:30 average pace. I ran the first half of the mile at a 5:58 pace!!!

                  • I've just been doing boring workouts.
Sun: pilates and a half hour on the stairmaster, about forty-five minutes of MA stuff
Mon: one hour of cardio kickboxing
Tues: half hour of stick drills which were not quite cardio, but close

I also spent like an hour learning how to spin poi on Sunday, does that count? Probably not... It's all in the wrist... Once I get good enough to set things on fire and spin them, I'll be happy.

Yes, I'll have to start RUNNING again. I really need to run in sneakers instead of my Merrell's (which are really messing my knees up) and have been putting off shoe shopping. Well, I'm leaving town for a week and a half, can I start working on our challenge again this Easter Sunday?

Well at my current state of fitness, I could probably do a ten miler in about
                              1 hour, 18 minutes.

I got a ten mile trail run race in May, I will try to bust this out in an hour and 20 minutes.

                              • How are you runners measuring the distance you've ran? Is this on a treadmill, or do ou have some kind of device?
