  • stretching and toning

I recently decided to start stretching and lighting weights again, trying to get back into shape, i was wondering if it was not recommended i lift and stretch at the beginning. i was sore the next day and it seemed as if i was less limber. is this normal at the beginning orshould i start out one of the 2. and if so which should be priority #1

    thx

Going back to weightlifting from a break can be very hard and taxing on the body. Guys who come back to wrestling and didnt workout in the offseason sometimes throw up. When getting back into working out try lifting 3 times a week. Day 1 Chest and Triceps. Day 2 Back and Biceps. Day 3 Legs and Shoulders. Always stretch before and after training to decrease liklihood of injury.

Make sure youre doing to the excercise correctly too. If youre sore then you either worked out really hard or messed up on a certain excercise.

Anyways, each body part once a week with a day in between. That is perfect for beginner lifters.

the first couple of weeks getting back into training is the wake up period. Your waking up the muscles. So, it's going to take a little longer recovering. But stay consistant in your training and things will become easier.

If you havn't worked out in a long time. Toning maybe the best way to start your training. I prefer lifting weights 3 days a week, doing full body workout routines on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Then do KickBoxing/Boxing training on Tuesday and Thursday and use Satureday as a extra sparring day if I havn't had enough sparring. Then Sunday is a rest day.

When I usually come back to muay thai after a layoff I begin with stretching and breathing using a simple yoga class or video, jump rope and bodyweight exercises prior to weight training. I found the body weight exercises really work closely to helping me prepare for muay thai training. You can get info on the exercises like squats, hindu pushups through many forums or the combat conditioning book and likewise through a dvd like the physical body www.thephysicalbody.com, where you can visually see the hindu body weight exercises and put them touse in your routines.
