How far can athletic performance go?

Who knows
Good question. The article suggests that scientific training methods and psychology are the drivers of peak performance over the last 20 years and probably will be for the next 20.
Some day we might find ourselves altering our DNA or undergoing some kind of genetic operation to make our tendons and skeletal muscles as thick & dense as those of gorillas or baboons.
Ever see the tug of war between the 89-lb chimpanzee and the 400-lb sumo wrestler?
The chimp won.

Correction
My mistake. It was a 350-lb sumo vs a 150-lb orangutan
It appeared on FOX's man vs. beast program a few years ago.

a good example of how far people can go is skateboarding, in a brief period of time skating has seen development of technical tricks that are done at speed and distances that would be considered impossible 30 years ago. It has actually come full circle so that the surfers of today emulate skateboarding moves.

The thing is, man is the jack of all trades int he animal kingdom, but the master of none(unless you talk space travel). Which other creature you know of can run, swim, climb, jump? And has the ability to think creatively and react approiately to given situations?
Sure a Dolphin is bloody fast in the water, but they can't climb or walk.
An ape maybe able to climb for long periods but few can run decently.
Get what I'm trying to say? Our strength is in our diversity of skills. We may not be very good at any of them but our brains and ability to adapt make up for that.
