Capoeira's a pretty high-intensity class. If you're unfit, it'll get you fit quick smart. If you're fit, class will be easier, and you'll be able to focus on the techniques more than panting and sweating.
So if you haven't started yet, and you're still looking for things to do before you start, I'd recommend doing things that will help with fitness - maybe some jogging, skipping, and definitely stretch after you've done your fitness workout!!!

Learning Capoeria is a huge waste of time unless you are a dancer. Join a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school, since its the most effective MA one could learn besides boxing and Muay Thai. BJJ is also one of the funnest, most awarding MA there is. Plus, training with a parter is essential.

Basic fintness exercises are fine just dont try to start doing capoeira moves
till you actually beggin your trainning.
for more info visit www.grupocafu.com
asfar as effective the only way a non capoeirista can say that is if they have stepped inside a capoeira roda.
it was a martial art first before anything mainstream is showing now.
and it still remains a martial art.

I'd love to see someone pick a fight with a capoeira dude in a dance club....
And don't listen to that wack BJJ preacher.
Byob...I'd suggest enrolling in a gymnastics rec class somewhere, just to get your basic of basics down. Have fun. Peace.

"Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put water into a teapot it becomes a teapot. Now, water can flow like a river, or it can crash like a waterfall. Be water, my friend." -- Bruce Lee
Just don't practice, train or spar to a beat or music, it will telegraph your movements and make it easier to counter-attack them.
Other then that, just try to get into shape and make sure you've got time set aside that you can use for training.

The law of tyranny:
1. Any power that can be abused will be abused
2. Abuse always expands to fill the limits of resistance to it.
3. If people don't resist the abuses of others, they will have no one to resist the abuses of themselves, and tyranny will prevail.

Capoeira?
If I tried that stuff the bad guy wouldn’t have to do anything except wait until I either got so dizzy and collapse to the floor and puked or I brake myself in two with some type of contorted upside down thingy.
