  • Bigger Biceps, how? Abs?

Hi, everyone I was wondering what are some workouts that you guys do for biceps besides dumbbells and so on. I feel like my chest is tooo big vs my arms. Also if you have any tips on working out on your stomach, please let me know. I usually do crunchs with the 65cm ball 300 of them or so (Is it bad to do abs 5times a week?). i did start noticing my abs coming out, but i have some extra fat their by the lower bottom of stomach, any suggestions on ab exercies. Thank you

Ill give you the whole deal over biceps. Compound curls are better for mass, isolation gives more tone. Compound curls like barbell curl and hammer curls are best for building good biceps, ditch the preacher curl for mass. Also, the deal with arms, is that people spend so much time trying to get big biceps, is that they dont realize most of the arm is tricep and shoulder.

Close grip bench is awesome for big arms. As for your abs, best way to show them off, cardio and diet. 6 pack abs usually arent a sign of strength, just a sign of low body fat!

What he's saying is that a six pack is the result of skin being drawn very, very tight against the ab muscles.

Get rid of the fat and your muscles will show.

Some people are genetically blessed to show six packs very easily. Most are not. Fact is, most chicks I've met don't really give a damn.

Red is exactly right. Look at Tim Sylvia, he'll never have a 6 pack.

Do that, youll get great gains. Do it for a month, I swear youll have awesome results if you follow it well, including the diet part!

Also, a little food for thought, your abs are a stabilizer muscle in a lot of excercises, so they get a workout there too. Not to mention when you walk. 3-4 times a week is fine Id say

he means vanity muscles such as big biceps wont do much for you in terms of functional martial arts.

any good ab excercises that will help people take body hits better?

I agree that compound curls are one of the best movements for overall bicep development. Keep in mind though that we all react differently to different exercises. Like me for example, the preacher curl works wonders on my arm growth. I vary it between an EZ-curl bar or with just dumbells, but I still keep preachers curls a part of my workout. You are just going to have to pay attention to what exercsises your arms respond too.

And like has been said, arms are like 2/3 triceps, so if you want "big guns" don't neglect the triceps. Also, in my humble experience, bigger triceps are better for strikes anyways.

As far as ab exercises to prepare for taking strikes....Isn't there one where a partner drops a medicine ball on you stomach? Or was that just in that old Van Dame movie? wait those were coconuts....

Just don't be too fat or it'll sting.

Other than that, do crunches of all kinds.

I wouldn't say that, most women like a six pack on a guy from my experience, just there are so few men that have it that women are realistic. If women only settled for guys with six packs, there'd be very few couples.

Also, as people grow older, the standards go down. Most men wouldn't mind if their woman had a great body, however, men make exceptions and a woman doesn't have to be perfect or anything. Most women, by the time they're 30, don't have a great body in the U.S. Same with men.

Which is why I like being fit, because then you can raise your standards

The best abs exercises I think are the hanging leg raise, which will develop real strength in the serratus anterior and lower and upper abdominals, the gymnastic lever pullup, which develops great abdominal, hip-flexor, and back strength all at the same time (it takes a long time to develop the ability to do the lever), and the gymnastic L-hold. Develop a lever, a 3 minute L-hold, and 5 sets of 5 reps of full hanging leg raises and you will have abs with strength most people never achieve.

Throw in good cardio, proper eating, and an all-around muscular workout program and you will develop a truly functionally strong physique with great-looking abs that are also super-strong.

BTW, rlos1000, if your chest is too big versus your arms, just do lots of pullups. Do them full range, don't cheat and only go half-way down or throw your legs into the movement.

Developing a big strong back I think is paramount to having a good chest and arms, plus pullups work the biceps. It's like everyone is so obsessed with arms and chest, everyone forgets the back!

The back covers the entire frame of your physique and if it is weak, all your other muscles will never have their full strength.

And in developing super abdominal strength, develop super lower back strength too, or you'll be prone to giving your lower back an injury.

Plenty of MMA guys don't have six packs...hell when Dekkers fought Genki Sudo he didn't have a six pack.

Just remember, girls like guys with skills. Like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, oh and add asskicking skills.
