Im surprised that sweeteners release insulin, but i wont debate that since it sounds quite likely. Main difference between, say fructose and saccharin is that you cant digest the latter. No calories because you excrete it unchanged. Fructose can be broken down.
To an earlier post by treelizard, if sugars are good after a workout, then fruit sugars would be identical. Glucose and fructose are metabolised almost identically, fructose being fruit sugar. Its simply converted to glucose then metabolised as standard.
