I'm wanting to gain about 20 pounds but I'm wanting to get in shape for kickboxing. Will I gain weight even though I run? What about running in a sauna suit?

Is running going to affect my weight gaining?

that will depend on how much you eat. if you want to gain weight, eat more. if you run a lot, you'll obviously need to eat more than if you didn't run. also, eating a lot combined with heavy lifting will help you get bigger and heavier faster.
running in a sauna suit wont do anything except make you sweat more. no long term weight effects really. you'll gain back all the weight after you drink water again.
btw, what do you mean by "in shape" ?
what are your goals exactly?

Forget the sauna suit. That's for cutting weight in the hours before a weigh-in and has no long term benefit.
Running might cut into your gaining weight goal, but you simply must run if you are training any stand-up fighting such as MT or kickboxing.
I don't know if describes you, but typically someone who is somewhat out of shape will gain a few pounds in a few weeks just by beginning an excersize regime. Maybe practice your KB and run but let the weight take care of itself and see where you are in a month or so.
Also, a sure road to failure is to change too much to soon. If you start KB and running and weights, and change your diet, you're gonna burn out. Cut your body some slack this first month, build up some good habits in the gym, resist the urge to go ballistic right off the bell.
Hope these thoughts apply to you, good luck and let us know how it's going. There's an encouragement thread here headed 'running' feel free to join in.Last edited by gregimotis; 09-14-2006, 09:41 AM.

I'm not that out of shape I am 6"4 and 185 pounds. I just haven't been able to work out because I'm so busy with everything else in my life. I'm in the military and we have to run 1.5 miles and 50 pushups and 50 situps. That has been my workout for the last 3 years. I kid everyone that workouts out religously and I party and drink beer all month long and come time to run I can still run 1.5 miles in 9:45. Not to bad but I want to do alot better that than.

if your just doing 1 1/2 miles, that isn't to bad. I usually try and get my fighters to do anywere to 2 to 3 miles a day. Usually start them out to 1 mile and have 2 to 3 miles as a goal. And work there abs till there up to 300 sit-ups per day. Don't necessarily have to do all 300 at a time. You can do 100 in the morning, 100 around lunch and 100 in the evening. I usually go threw a 1 1/2 hour to 2 hour traning section and there's break points were I do s set of sit-ups.
but basically to gain weight, you got to add more protein to your diet. But sence your in a edurance type of art, you'll still need to get your carbs in. I'd suggest maybe doing a protein shake before you go into your weight lifting. for 6'4" i'd aggree, you got room to gain a little, but you should have a pretty good reach advantage at the weight your at.

lol...might want to limit yourself on the partying. I was in the AirForce too, stationed in Germany, that was like a 2 year party. Alot of fun, but tends to slow down your abilities and the ambition to train like you should.
