  • 21 mile Marathon

I am going to be in a 21 mile marathon but it is split between 3 people (Maybe). My part should be 7 miles maybe a few more. It is in April so I have about 5 months to train. I have never ran that far before but I can run good. I have to run 1.5 miles every month for the military. I can run the 1.5 is 9:45. How much harder is it going to be to run an extra 6 miles. I have heard it is easier to run the 5 mile than the 1 miles. Is that true? What do I need to do to get ready for this? Thanks.

Running 7 miles is completely different than running 1 mile.

1 mile feels like a sprint; your legs are bursting and you can't catch your breath for a minute or so afterwards, but in a few minutes later you can do it again.

7-miler, your energy reserves are depleted; your legs start to feel like jello and your lungs feel like they've been roasting on an open fire.

See it for yourself. Figure out how many laps on your track (or trail) equal 7 miles. Run it.

Come back and tell us your thoughts.

      That's speedy.

How much did you weigh at the time?

But I ran 3-4 miles a day every day for years. Never missed a day, except for when I sprained my ankle
If I'm going to break a 6:00 mile, I should probably cut below 170 -lb.

        (currently lower 180's).
