      I would do things that would make you use your muscles over and over again like digging holes or chopping wood for example, that way you get that functional strenght and not just the I can bench 300 pounds strenght, I work construction and I have to lift not really heavy stuff but I have to lift stuff every day all day and I am a really small guy, but I can generate power for long periods of time not just a short burst. hope that helps.

        Stronger, not larger

        I'd like to add that if you're trying to get stronger without a significant size increase you should avoid the 7-13 rep range.

        When you're pushing up to 5 reps, you build limit strength - the ability to exert maximum force.

        When you're pushing 15 + reps, you build anaerobic stamina - the ability to move against resistance, repetitively over a period of time.

        7-13 builds strength and size.
