I am currently trying to lose weight, and in an effort to cut calories I was wondering if rice would be a good to eat. I know it has a lot of carbs, but with no fat it seems like it may be a good thing to eat. For instance, this morning I fixed one serving of rice and mixed with three eggs (2 whites/1 whole) with a little bit of salt and a lot of pepper. Would this be okay? Thanks for the help.

I remember reading somewhere that guys training at The Lion's Den eat nothing but boiled rice and boiled boneless, skinless chicken breasts. And gallons of water. Carbs and Protein with little or no fat. Combined with intense workout, of course. You gotta be real motivated and goal oriented to keep that up for long, though.

So far, we're talking about a very simple, Spartan diet which may get really boring and cause you to cheat or even leave you malnourished in regards to all the essential nutrients your body needs to be healthy.
Something you can do to make this program work better for you is to make it more varied;
Use brown, whole grain rice.
Use low-fat broths, herbs and spices for flavoring.
Eat more foods that are high-fiber, low-fat and low-sugar, such as; carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.
Possible low-fat protein sources;
Boiled egg whites (yolks are mostly fat)
Boiled or broiled boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Broiled white fish
Beans, boiled and seasoned more with spices and less with salt.
Something else I've recently done for reasons other than dietary is fasting; going for an entire day with nothing but water is very easy if you've got no medical problems like diabetes and you keep in mind that it's just for this one day. Doing this once a week helps clean you out, focuses you, strengthens your resolve and shrinks your belly (mentally and physically) so you gradually develop the habit of eating smaller amounts.
And finally; water water water water water. As pure as you can afford to buy. Read the label; no chlorine, no sodium, no trace minerals - just water!

Japan has more centenians(age 100+) than any other country on Earth.. They eat lots and lots of rice. I have an aroma brand rice cooker that can cook up rice in about 7 minutes. I eat white rice with soy sauce. It is believed to be good for prostate health. Not to mention how good it tastes. I eat white rice with soy sauce on average of several times a week.

Persian rice isn't eaten sticky, like most Asian rices and they use butter.Last edited by Tom Yum; 04-19-2007, 12:24 AM.

Do you ever switch to Thai jasmine rice or Basmatti rice? or Persian Rice?
