I am trying to get strong for these sports, and am wondering what I can do in order to get there? I need intense workouts, no 30 push ups a day. Thanks for your input.

Check out Ross Boxing. Yeah, he's a boxing coach but he has a fitness program that does wonders for all combat athletes.
Check out Matt Furey's conditioning program as well.
Lastly, take a look at crossfit.com
These sources should give you an idea of what kinds of conditioning you should be doing.
Best of luck!

Hardman's suggestion of compound lifts & excercises will make you stronger overall and help reduce injury since you'll strengthen muscles and tendons. A good thing for grappling. If you're trying to get stronger, focus on doing these excercises with a weight that you cannot push/lift/pull for more than 6 reps.
If you're a beginner, start off using weights that you can do 12 reps per excercise for about 2-3 weeks, then increase the loads until you cant do more than 8 reps for a week or two, then increase the loads again until you can't do more than 6.
The programs I listed are for specific combat sports conditioning. They build your cardio, explosive speed, stamina, coordination and strength pretty evenly.Last edited by Tom Yum; 09-18-2007, 09:48 PM.

make sure you get your back muscles as big as possible. when you do lifts for your back, lift furiously, but safely. try to create an unbreakable back with a strong thick neck with huge muscles that will protect you when you are slammed or rolled on your head. its very important, especially for grappling.
in judo they made us do drills to make us bigger and stronger by making us run back and forth across the gym with our partner in a firemans carry, or have to drag him back and for across the gym in a rowing type motion while gripping his gi, which also develops grip strength for holding on to your victim. tons of sex pushups. lots of stretching.
weight lifting is usually mandatory for wrestlers.

Yes!
When I started cross training in boxing from muaythai, I found myself with decent hand speed but not the power that I was looking for. Part of it was due to stance differences, but I also used Ross's punching with power program.
My punches are hella heavier now.
