  • Negative calorie foods and metabolism

    I've been consuming a lot of negative calorie foods from lunch onwards recently, but I'm wondering if negative calorie foods make my metabolism work as hard as other food does. Two pounds of steak should keep my metabolism at the same level of quality as two pounds of fruit/vegs should, right?

    Since negative calorie foods get their quality by forcing the body to work harder to break them down, they should be better for the metabolism, no?

    I'm wondering this, because I'm (possibly overreacting here) thinking that when I emerge from my diet and start eating less fruit, replacing it with other sorts of meals, that my metabolism won't be able to handle the difference, and I'll gain some weight back.

    (Yes, I am working out regularly.)

    Being ripped and sexy is a lot of work; I used to be really into it, but now I just want to be in shape and be able to fight and defend myself if I get into a scuffle. Thank God not all women need a guy to be ripped at all times, lol.

      Out of curiosity, are you doing this because you're trying to get the last little bit of fat out? We all have to walk our own path, but in my humble opinion, for a regular guy just leaning out rather than an elite athlete trying to get that last little edge, managing your food intake like this seems awfully complicated. And the idea of using food as a metabolism adjustment mechanism rather than something delicious to eat that can power up your body can be a mistake. You can reach incredible levels of leanness and athleticism just eating good real natural food and working out hard. The effort and worry you're putting into managing negative calorie foods and metabolism management, I'd rather see you put into just developing good eating habits and good cooking skills so you're looking forward to every meal, using only natural foods. I don't see any reason not to eat both organic fruit and grass-fed steak as a regular part of my diet. My metabolism gets all the boost it needs when I do hill sprints, or 100 burpees in under 10 minutes; the food is there to keep me powered up and to be delicious.

      Just an alternative view, I've seen many people miss the forest for the trees when they started managing all kinds of esoteric food/nutrition/metabolism effects.

        You'd have been better off not elaborating with me. I'm overweight, and choosing a diet plan of nutrition and exercise, while trying to get into the fighting shape I used to be in.

        I'm asking my question out of technical curiosity, as I'm the analytical sort. I don't know what about my initial question that's inspiring criticism of supposed zealotry, but it's not actually the case.

              Oh she's already gone her own way....

              All they want is a weekend-long fling. Then they tell me that I'm such a nice guy and want to be alone.

              How the hell did I become a playa by doing nothing? LOL

                Props to you, most dudes would've just banged her and moved on; but you stuck to your convictions and I believe you will be rewarded for that.

                  Single = Perfect for now.

                  No time for anything serious now due to job reasons, a month ago would have been a fine chance to get things started. I'm a nice dude, that hasn't changed but the door is closed temporarily due to job demands. And back to the main topic....

                  I think one should eat sensibly and healthy without trying to go overboard with different kinds of diets. Especially if you have to eat MREs from time to time.
