Subject: Instructional Services Announcement February 18, 2002
From: Dan Severn & Michigan Sports Camps

Michigan Sports Camps is pleased to announce the launching of our new Instructional Services Group. This new division of our operations is the result of our long and concerted efforts to develop a comprehensive and certifiable new martial art system which will address all arenas of combat in order to meet the needs of today’s Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) community. The standardized material which is contained in the Severn Combat Systems curriculum provides a complete package for the practitioner, and is application proven by system founder, Dan Severn. Dan is the only Triple Crown champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC), and is the holder of more than 90 championship titles in a variety of fight disciplines. He pioneered the sport of NHB (No Holds Barred) as the first true grappler, and has since developed his NHB arsenal to include proven stand-up striking techniques. Dan is considered by many to be the true father of the Ground and Pound style of MMA. A former US Freestyle National Champion, Dan is one of the few wrestlers who has also been successful in making the transition to the Greco-Roman arena. This fact makes Dan one of the most knowledgeable Takedown experts in the world!!
We believe that our newly developed SCS training methodology is unique, and is the only training of this nature available anywhere. The SCS training approach efficiently builds its foundation on each person’s unique characteristics in order to maximize the individual practitioner’s MMA skills in a minimum amount of time.
We are also pleased to announce the addition of Dave Kujawski to our operations. Dave will serve as our Program Director for our new Instructional Services Group, and comes to us with 27 years of martial arts training in a variety of disciplines. This new group will be entirely focused on instructional services, and will encompass onsite training camps, offsite seminars, instructor certifications, curriculum upgrades for partnering martial arts schools, and school affiliation programs.
We look forward to all inquiries regarding our new program and capabilities. Best of luck in all of your training efforts……….

To tell you the truth, I really have a lot of respect for Dan Severn. I think he is a classy guy and one hell of a mixed martial artist. I would jump at the opportunity to learn from him and train with him, or even just to talk to him on this forum.

However, I don't quite buy the following:

"He pioneered the sport of NHB (No Holds Barred) as the first true grappler"

"Dan is considered by many to be the true father of the Ground and Pound style of MMA"

"This fact makes Dan one of the most knowledgeable Takedown experts in the world!!"

I am not sure that any of these statements are entirely accurate. Also, I think that to use statements of this "quality" in reference to Mr. Severn actually works against your goals.

Mr. Severn is highly respected and very well known and you shouldn't have to resort to statements such as these to promote your new system.

I expect something better from the support staff of one of the premier legends in NHB competition.

        Dave,

I appreciate your sensitivity to my feelings, it makes me feel better.

But I never said I was offended.

And yeah, I would jump at the chance to train with you and Mr. Severn, but I won't be coming out in the winter... not to Michigan!

And gee Dave, I'm sorry if I bored you with my superflous commentary. I'll try to keep it interesting from now on.

        Your friend,

I would imagine the course will be along the lines of

                1. Be big
                2. Be very very big
                3. Be a wrestler.
                4. And strong

                Something like that.............

                    The Beast does rule.

However, it seems that members of his training circle are a tad sensitive.

                    Go figger?
