  • help please!

well, i'm starting to get lazy and i'm getting out of shape. i just started getting back into martial arts, its been about a 1 1/2 years since i've trained...i can't find a really good school around here, so i wanna train myself...i think i have the knowledge to do this so dont tell me its a bad idea

what i need help with, and i thought you guys might know, is figuring out how to train...i want to focus on speed and agility...what kind of training can i do without a partner? (i'm getting a punching bag soon so i can use that and i have a weight bench thing) and what kind of diet do you recoment? (i dont use supplements so dont recomend them please)

any help would be great, thanks!

Diet-wise, I'd recommend high protein, low carb. If that does not work for you, change it however you need. Unfortunately diet, like training, needs experimentation to find what works for each individual.

For the high protein part, lots of meat, eggs, cheese. Don't worry too much about fat, unless you start to pack on fat then go for lean meats (sirloin, chicken).

For low carbs, eat minimal pastas and breads. Just enough to so you do not get cravings. Get enough veggies, though. You will get plenty of carbs from fruits and veggies along with their vitamins and minerals.

Don't be afraid to experiment. Change things around if it does not work for you. There are people who swear by high-carb diets so it obviously works for some people.

In the land of diet info, if you have a local gym with someone who is a competitive bodybuilder (pro or amateur) they would make a great source of diet information.

Don't listen to Biker, he's full of fluff and stuff. What you need to do is eat at McDonalds!

Check out www.trainforstrength.com for some good solo training advice.

As far as MA training, a 3BB should be able to keep himself in hard core training shape with no problem!

          3rd,
it really depends what you are training for. do you want "beach muscle," or would you rather be smaller and have more "functional combat strength." it really depends what you are looking for. there are many fitness tapes and such out there. if you are looking for reality self-defense training, take a look at Richard Dimitri's tape, the lone warrior. it's supposed to be quite good. it's not a "how to" tape. it's more of a combat attribute development tape. is this what you are looking for? if you want tournament stuff, there are plenty of qualified people you could ask--all you need to do is look.

          hope i helped

I definitely don't want to be bulky, or what you would call "beach muscle." All that would do is slow me down. I think I can get into the shape I want by myself maybe, but I just wanted to know what you guys do and some recomendations. Thanks for recomending the video, I might check it out. I tried a high-protein diet once, and it really worked well for me. I might go back to it. I'm just gonna work with weights and work cardio on the bag every day probably (once I get a punching bag). Then as soon as I find a place, I'm gonna do Muay Thai or JKD or something on Saturdays, just to get back into sparring, and learning new techniques I can practice by myself at home. Thanks guys!

You might want to find a training partner as well. I've heard that too much training at home by yourself leads to hairy palms and vision impairment.

Check out my workout routine on Instanity Program 1.

You should include jump roping, plyometrics, and spritning if you want to increase your speed and agility.
