I am 6'3 and 148 pounds. What kind of foods can I eat to gain weight?

  • #2
Eat a lot of complex carbs and 1 gram of quality protein per pound of body weight per day. You should eat at least 500 calories above your maintainance calories per day. If you want this weight increase to be muscle, however, you should do some serious weight lifting 4-5 days per week, hitting each muscle group once per 4-5 days.

Jushin, with my built-for-famine-conditions Irish genes I don't have much experience with your problem. But I found an article that you may find interesting:

      Good luck,

It is good to eat healthy and especially your intake of protein.

But if you aren't consuming more calories than you are currently you will gain no weight at all. You body works where it needs x amount of calories to function to its current level (basil metabolic rate).

To gain weight (fat or muscle) you have to over eat and over consume the amount of calories.

          Hope this helps

it would help if i knew what body type you are.

Ectomorph: A narrow, skinny body type. Very little fat and only a little muscle.

Endomorph: A large, soft body type. A lot of fat and some muscle.

Mesomorph: A “broad-shouldered, narrow waist” body type. A lot of muscle and very little fat.

That is *wrong*, you are proliferating a wives tale.

The actual rule is: Eat ONE GRAM of protein per KILOGRAM of LEAN body mass.

              KILOGRAM... LEAN BODY MASS...

The "1 gram per pound of body weight" is a bastardized urban legend, probably started in high school weight rooms.

Find out your lean body mass in Kilograms, then use that to determine your protein amount. You can do 1 or 1.5 grams typically. Never eat more than 30 grams of protein in a 2 hour period, either.

Just out of curiosity-why should you never consume more than 30 grams of protien in a 2 hour period? (I think I know the answer, but it would be nice to hear it from a professional) Thanks-

Because your kidneys can only process so much protein at a time.... roughly 15 grams an hour or so. What it can't process isn't saved, it's put in the "excrete" pile.

If you eat 100 grams of protien at once, you will pee or poop out 85 grams of it. When they say that you're flushing money down the toilet with supplements, they mean it literally.

I probably poo once every 2-4 days, and I don't think that is healthy

and it freaking takes me 10-20 mins to crap man,
