        Dang!

I'm starting back up with the weights again and am going for a 300lb bench. My last attempt at 1 RM was ~ 265.

        Advice?

My advice would be to get advice from the most senior people you can. (BTW, I know enough to recognize that I'm an intermediate, not an authority on the subject.) This forum is not as mature in the areas of training methods for developing bench press as other places online. In particular, you have some people who give out rather ill-informed and incorrect information. I hope that will change over time, but for help in the immediate future there are some resources online where you can interact with people with 1k deadlifts/squats and 700 lb bench:

          Regards,

          Terry

A good place to go for information is the forum on supplement central. You can talk to a guy by the name of Kali. He is gonna give you about the same advice I do and that's diet, diet, diet......He knows what he is talking about and he can give you some really good diets. On the other hand I agree that the amount you bench has nothing to do with your knowledge on nutrition and lifting. Most of my freinds that are nutritionist and personal trainers lift between 300-400lbs.

If you are going for power though Tom you would want to do lower reps with more weight. I try to do resistance and endurance on weight training. When I am working on resistance I go with alot of weight and do the 10, 8, 5, 3 routine. When I go for endurance (build up speed and make muscle used to working for long periods of time) I do a small amount of weight that I can get about 30-50 reps off of. When I do resistance training I tend to go slower and focus more on technique whereas when I am doing endurance I tend to go a good bit faster to build up speed and work the specific muscles that I use for punching and kicking.

Thanks. I did a similar routine last night with squats as follows:

                135 x 10 reps
                225 x 8 reps
                315 x 8 reps
                405 x 5 reps
                500 x 3 reps

I normally don't lift heavy but after pilling the weights on, I felt like I did a real mans workout! There were bigger bodybuilder guys around me who were having trouble getting up 315 for 10 reps on 3 sets.

My energy level was unaffected until about an hour after the workout and then it hit me like a bomb and I didn't feel like moving. I attribute this hour lag to having a solid base in explosive stamina from plyometrics and muay thai. Can't wait to get back in the gym!!

Falcon, What is the URL for supplement central?

Tom, the guys I work with tell me to wrap knees on squats above 405 (225 if you're a woman).

They have some pretty good guys on there that will give you some good information about what supps. to use and what works and what doesn't. Kali is a good source for diet information and you can go on the sticky threads and check out there reviews of the major supps. out right now. You have to watch though there are people on that forum just like any other forum that claim to know what they are talking about but they don't tend to last very long there.

                        b) challenging me on sports nutrition.

Fact of the matter is I have been lifting a long time and been doing sport nutrition for just as long. I know my shit and that's that. I have spent many years with nutritionist and personal trainers who are very good freinds of mine and have done a few courses myself. This Paul guy came onto the forum trying to tell everyone that he knows everything there is about sport nutrition and trying to give everyone routines that just don't work. He consistently is giving wrong information and just spouting off at the mouth. You can defend him if you want but know one is going to stand behind you for defending him after the crap that Paul Wislon (teen stuntman) has tried to pass on everyone.

And as far as me saying he doesn't know anything about lifting because he lifts 120lbs............I don't know who takes advice on nutrition from a 140lbs. 15yrs. old that lifts 120lbs...........If you want advice from him just ask in a private message cuz I am going to call bullshit on post about nutrition that are bull.
I'm not taking sides, just trying to make you all realise how harsh you all are on him, i think your letting a 15yr old wind you up a little to much, RobberG especially.

and answering your second point, good to hear you know your stuff, still doesn't mean you know everything as new methods are found, etc. Fact of the matter is i never challenged you, and still dont challenge you, wouldn't want to waste my breathe on someone who seems so self opinionated.

Where exactly did you get the idea I challenged you from!??!

now your just twisting it, you said 'And Robert is right Paul, with a 120lbs. bench you shouldn't be giving advice to anyone' you mentioned no fact of age nor body weight. Just that 'people with 120lbs shouldn't give advice'

                        later.

I train with weights, but I am no bodybuilder.
The stuntman thing is something me and my brother do, nothing big its just for fun. We like to have a laugh.
And why do proceed to be childish about taking advice from me. I may not bench a lot but squatting I do, leg extensions I do, military press I do. e.t.c...
