Im a very unflexible person naturally ( stiff back, groin, hamstrings etc...) and for the past few weeks have just started to try and develope my flexibility. One thing i was told by a friend of mine who has been able to stretch easily for awhile now ( takes some art, i forget which one, bah) said that when u stretch to the point of pain ur ripping muscle fibers which is a big no-no. so when u say "stretch for 5 minutes or until pain subsides* .... that kinda seems a bit...wrong. iono, maybe im misinformed, but as of right now ive been "learning" how to stretch the very long and tedious route. So if anyone has any info on this it would be great.

      peace

I found this document a while back and have been going by it lately since I'm trying to get back some of my flexibility I lost when I stopped physical training for a while. Stretching It's not the greatest but it gives out some good information.

          I should clarify pain.

I am not talking about terrible stabbing pain. I am talking about pain and comes from stretching as far as you can, a burning aching pain usually. go as far as you can and then go 1cm more
If you have that look on your face, and usually the accompaning ahhhh. hold there. The pain should subside very quickly once you stop stretching. However you main still ache a bit until you start to loosen up.

          Good luck
