  • Movie Martial Arts

I wasnt sure where to post this thread because there isnt a forum to which it applies, plus i wanted to put it somewhere where everyone could see.

I have suggested opening a Movie Lartial Arts forum on this site and wondered what everyone thinks of the idea.

I know most of the people here are 'hardcore' selfdefence types, but the title of the forum is Martial Arts and movie MA are a legit. art form.

I dont just mean a Movie Review forum either, there is a growing number of people who study MovieMA and are passionate about it.

    What do you all think?

We're dealing with reality here, and doing our honest best to get to the Truth. At least that's what I'm doing.
If you want to deal in fantasy, I would suggest you go somewhere else or create your own website with a forum and discuss 'Movie Martial Arts' with whomever is interested.
I for one function in reality mode and I leave the fantasy in the movie theaters, television, books, etc...

I reiterate that the forums are called Martial ARTS.

Like i said, its a valid art form.

Thanks Thai Bri, constructive as ever.

To Maxetai, you wouldnt have to enter the forum, just like you dont have to enter the Chinese MA forum if you dont do Chinese MA, the Chinese forum still exists.

People discuss Tai Chi, this has little to do with modern self defence.

            Kosh,
'Arts' is a wide term. Painting, drawing, singing, writing poems, music, pottery, movies, etc... are all 'Arts'. In this forum , we are interested in the Martial/Fighting/Combative types of 'Arts'.
If you like movies, go to an 'Arts' Forum that deals with movies and not with fighting (unarmed or armed).

And by the way: You're really off base with your Tai Chi example. Even I can apply many of it's principles for modern self defense, and I'm not an avid practitioner of this Art.

I think the film forum is a good idea, M.A films reflect a lot of things and martial arts is not just about the f****** streets, its an art of expressing yourself and its a sport not just a tool used to protect yourself (though it helps).

Yeah but Martial Arts isnt so wide, it still includes Movie MA

You have yet to come up with a valid reason as to why Movie MA shouldnt be included on this site.

ps i wasnt picking on Tai Chi, i believe TC would be indirectly useful in self defence, as i have argued on this site before.

My point is that MovieMA fall within MA, is that not true? If so, whats the problem? Is the problem, that you simply dont like it?

I would also like to see a Capoeira forum...

Im not talking about a film review forum. I mean a forum for MAists who are into Movie MA.

                      Kosh,
I still don't fully understand what you really mean by "Movie Martial Arts"
But I'll give it a chance just out of curiosity if the moderators of this forum will allow it.
P.S. Kosh, please explain in more detail what you mean by "Movie Martial Arts" Perhaps if you can be more specific, then maybe I can see it from a different perspective and realize the value of it in a Martial Arts setting.

Ah ok, you think i mean simply a forum where people can discuss MovieMA? Thats no what i mean.

If you look through the internet, there are loads of people making ameteur MA movies, training to be stunt people etc. This could be one aspect of discussion on the forum.

By Movie MA i mean the martial arts people learn, with the aim of working in the movie industry. Its a very different art from what is discussed on this forum, but thats because there is no place for it to be discussed. Thats not to so its a less worthy art form.

Obviously there will be alot of 'this movie is good, what do you think of that one', but its not like all the other forums dont have pointless threads on them.

I think it would be cool to discuss Movie MA in a proper forum.

Well, if it would keep it all in the same place, instead of having some Geordi knob posting all over the show.........

Well, a "Geordi Knob" is defined quite clearly in the Sammy Seahorse rule book, where it clearly states -

"Geordi Knob - Numb noun about a numb nutted nonce. Adjective arse hole regarding an abject arse kissing wank stain of a numb nutted noncey Geordie boy wufta. Basically anyone North East ofManchester who like that shit called the Martial Arts Movie."

Am I right, Sir? Am I right?
