  • Energy Raising and Focus

Does anyone have any background or knowledge of internal energy in relation to the execution or martial skills? I'm asking because I have experienced what I percieve to be a energizing feeling from my stomache chest region. I experienced this when using breathing techniques. I have practiced a couple basic methods of breath manipulation for the last 6 years. The sensation feels to me like less than half of an adrenalin dump. Also it allows me to experience a hightened kinestetic perception which is also accompanied by an ease of nerves. I don't shake or make unnececery movement in this state. But concentrating on it is difficult. I can't hold this state of mind for more than 10 minutes when I use the heavy bag. When I'm just shadow boxing I can hold it only 5 mins. But If I'm just sitting or especially lieng down I can hold it for fifteen to twenty minutes.
Anyways I have a question. I'm done talking about myself now I swear. I just wanted to know if anyone knows any good links, schools, groups, books, personal experiences, or any LOGICAL information on the matter. I have seen fighting monks do a hand gesture from waist to head then back or somthing. Im sure there is a wealth of information availble on energy raising in relation to meditaion. But I would really like to know more about how this force effects movement and power. Thanks, I'm sure no one will respond to this post execpt Thai Bri. If anyone read all this rambling thanks.

I studied under Master Phuoc Phon for 3 years (1991-1994).
His school is in Philadelphia; if you have the opportunity, contact him or even better visit, or the ultimate, enroll in his school.

      RE: Energy Raising and Focus

I can tell you this: Ki (CHi) energy, which is what you are experiencing, is not ONLY in breathing techniques. A lot of Ki focus is in mentaly guiding Ki to the major muscle groups. Personly, I am 15 years of age with not much muscle on my body (without being dicusting), however, when I am ready to throw a kick into the kicking pad, I can kick the adults into the wall because my kicks are focused, consentrated, and I guide my Ki (Chi) to the muscles involed in the specific kick that I am doing.

Also, there are no limits to wonders of the harmonious (relaxed) mind. If you do a kick and you are tense and ridgid and totaly unrelaxed, you will not kick to you mind's fullest extent. You must, must, must be relaxed in every kick, punch, and/or technique that you exicute.

Lastly, and then I'll shut up, a little Martial Science advise. The Shaoling Masters would say that you draw energy from the earth to do every kick and punch. For example, when one throws a cross (reverse) punch, you push off the ground. Ergo, the energy travels up your leg, through your hip, the side of your torso, you arm, your fist, and into what you are punching (your target).

I have also spent much time meditating and pondering about my past, present, and what things will be like in accordance to this. I have my own little "theory" about something called Adept (which goes deeper, so I'll spare the details). While lifting up the leg and ready to kick, you can feel your body using energy trying to hold up the leg. While an opponent is in front of you, your brain will also transfer the nerve-racking feeling to the nerves in your leg, hindering the performance. This is nothing new to you people I'm sure, but it is an essential concept, since there is no weapon more powerful than the mind. I just like talking about these types of things, so don't mind my rambling.

the reason u r feeling it in ur stomach and chest(well not always the chest but mostly the stomach) is b-cuz that's where ur tan tien is and that's where the chi is stored untill it's released. once u b-come more adept at it u can start to bring it to other area's of the body. that's when u know ur getting advanced...good job at starting to feel it..have u ne experiance in tai chi?..or chi kung or ba gua?

I don't have any experience in any martial arts other than San-Jitsu Ryu and some TKD. I hade'nt even heard of chi kung outside this one book I have. The type of things that were written about it seemed mostly made up. One technique that seemed like it might my psysically possible was the ability to pull your testicles into your stomache. Um, so whats this about a tan tien? I can feel it from my extreme lower stomache (torso?) to the back of my head. The most intense place being the bottom of my neck where I feel the wind going in my chest. I recently got the bottom of my feet to feel it. But I have been able to concentrate a range of unusual sensation in my hands since I was at least 9. But I really found the body thing using breathing exercises. Since then I can put it in my arms an legs. The whole body too. I kinda feel like a scitzo talkin about this cuzz im not even sure what it is. But it has an effect on my body and mental perception that is to profound for me to forget about. Anyways gimmie some links or names, I'd like some info. Knowledge is power, ya know?

sorry i don't know ne good websites but what ever u want to ask u can ask me cuz using chi is what i do. um the thing about the testicles is very real. don't ask me of i can do it cuz i hav never tried.....i have never seen it either....but my sifu(who has been doing taichi for 60 somod yrs) says he used to do it for practice and it helps the sex drive was well.the dan tien(as i explained earlier) is 3 inches below ur belly button and 2 to 3 inches inward from that point..it can be translated as ur solar plexus or ur center of balance. not only is that where the chi is stored...that is ur exact middle. i think the reason u r feeling it all over is cuz ur transfering it and not knowing it. like i said when u get more adept at it u can do it at will. u want to be careful though...ur chi is ur life force(no pun intended for star wars fans) and if u keep is going...and don't calm down....or don't know how to calm it down...then u cna be in some serious trouble....it can be fatal.it's like suffocating....when u feel it...ur giving it off...other(adepts0 can sense it as well and literally feed off of it. not like absorbing it..but feeling it..and literaly ur giving it away....and not saying that that's a bad thing...it's just if ur a lil inexperianced with it u cna start to be fatigued really easily...u should get into a taichi or bagua class(or chu kung, keep in mind though..chi kung is not a martial art0 and start learning to use it cuz u seem to be a natural,.....that's how i was...i was doing it b4 i even thought of martial arts. and my sifu helped me to "harness" and control it and it's very cool...great for healing wounds and brusies...keep it up if i were u

well like i said...some peeps r born with more then others..and some peeps can bring it out better than others...and different peeps have more control than others....if u release too much then yes it can be fatal..chi is not someting u mess around with.u always want to be careful when u do some sort of chi exercise. and make sure ur master knows what he is doing b4 u get into it too deep

Learning Tai Chi and Bau Gau won't help control or increase my energy, will it?
I think you also said Chi Kung doese'nt have martial application. Hmm.... And I also gathered that self practice without guidence or any forknowledge is dangerous. That one was probably common sense though...... Since you said you study chi kung can you tell me about some of your practices? What are the basic principals of safety in practicing these techniques? I'm not sure there are any Chi Kung schools where I live. So, most of the applications of your art are related to healing? I'm sure this stuff has to be felt in person to teach properely but please tell me all you can. Since you said I could ask about your discipline can you tell me some breathing techniqes or chi exercise? Personal first hand info would be greatly apreciated. Thanks M Artist

hey no prob dude i will do all i can...ok....first....
do u have a tai chi school in the city u r in? if u do they most likely teach chi kung as well. if they don't then u r dealing with a bunch of old inexperianced peeps who only do it to be busy.
second.there are some chi kung martial arts.....BUT...... no one really learns them they cuz they'er not very practical. ok...this breathing technique that im going to try to explain as best i can....u need to pay attention ok?
                        fyi
this one get's me going EVERY time hehehehe

                        k....stand straight up.....back spine legs everything,completely straight
next..bend knees to about a 45 degree angle.
                        next
gets ur palms face down and move them in front of ur tan tien(three inches below ur belly button and 2-3 inches inward)have the pointer fingers on each hand barely touch...ur should be making a upside down heart shape.
                        next
make sure ur waist is pointing forward....like, ya know what it feels like to stick ur butt out?...well do but going forward..but not too much.

now we get to the breathing part
now for this part u may want to close ur eyes for this
it helps the minds eye to see a lil bit more clearly
                        now
breathe in thru ur nose. in ur minds eye invision the air coming in thru ur nose with a color(the color of the air helps the minds eye to recognize what is going on)personaly i use blue...it being my fav color and all
now as ur breathing it breathe AS DEEP AS U CAN
as it's going in invision it coming tru ur nose, going down ur spine.curling to go towards ur tan tien, then coming back up. by the time ur minds eye sees the air go be ur tan tien, u should start exahling. now if u have to go slow to breathe deep then keep the color going slow. if u have to breathe fast at first then let go slowly then make sure ur minds eys is controling the color to do that as well...do that for about (i do it for about 15 min) but i would suggest, since u seem to be a natural, i would say about 7 or 8 min. now remember what im telling ur is a real chi kung meditation. now if u don't feel something at first or during the whole duration of ur meditation don't let it get to u....one more thing. this is very important
KEEP YOUR FEET ON THE GROUND,100% PLANTED!" u want it to feel like ur legs have become roots and u r the tree....u don't want to move at all....now when ir first starts to come up (for me it goes thru my legs first then my legs start to reall vibrate and shake) so u may feel it there first. now after about 3 or 4 min of doing this make ur palms face eachother....this is where u play with a chi ball...the closer u move ur hands together(if it's going for u neway) u will start to feel pressure in the middle of ur hands as if there was a ball there....then start to move them apart...u may feel as if ur hands are being sucked together and ur are taking it apart
that's all for today...now if ur going good....to stop it....if ur a girl u put u left hand on ur tan tien and put ur right hand on top....if ur a boy u put ur right on ur tan tien the ur left over it....start to slow ur breathing and do that for a few min..if it's still going after that it will be alright trust me then it's ok...u have now suppressed it and it's not going newhere...
                        peace
                        hope it works for ya

...and the next step if you're the opposite sex of m.artist?

put left hand on left bed post
put right hand of right bed post
                          bend at knees
                          arch back and lean forward

m.artist will have to check for correct posture from back position by aligning his tan tian with yours...jk

great that you're into the internal arts man. Keep sharing, its good for the body and mind.
