  • Best Way to Work on Parrying

What excersizes, drills etc etc are best to work on your reaction time and parrying skills, and overal hand speed can i do to make a difference.

Handspeed: Punch out drills (hitting the bag repetitively as fast as possible for 30-60-90 sec intervals), calisthenics, 5-6 punch sparring/ focus mitt work.

Defense: Better footwork, keeping your hands up, chin tucked covered by your shoulder, good head movment and more sparring.

After a couple months to maybe a year of training, your sparring transitions from just testing out techniques, earning lumps and trying to survive to fighting smarter. It becomes more about strategy and game.

It sounds like your really excited about your training and its contagious.

Just have a buddy spar with you and let him throw punches and you just work solely on defense. Go slowly and practice what you know.

Yeah me too - sparring works great for reaction times, as does a 60 second blitz attack style training regime. Its what we do to get better reactions for suit fighting in escrima.

IF you want to improve your parrying, the best thing to do is practice parrying. Come up with a simple drill, with several repitions. This is the best way to increase your parrying skill.

best way to work on parrying is doing parrying drills. have ur partner come at u with a jab, then double jab an cross, jab cross and other combinations and work on parrying them. start slow, then pick up speed as u get better. after u have gotten comfortable p[arrying punches, add counters to your parrys. this is extremely effective, parry and counter. mix it up once u get good enough

a few weeks of parrying drills and u will be able to parry and counter real punches with ease.

and be careful to avoid tunnel vision also, you might want to have two friends fire off punches at you (with padded gloves for them and protection for yourself) just one after the other, it helps break up the rhythm that one tends to get in with these drills and adds difficulty. Hopefully you also intend to practice some slipping, bobbing, weaving actions as well.
