  • Imatating

Hello, just got back from my training and noticed (when sparring/randori) I am begining to imatate many other martial art styles Ive seen.
I am currently doing Shorinji Kempo for 2 years now, but Iv recently been hanging around with some mates that do other arts (they are a couple years older than me and quite experienced), so anyway Iv seen them sparring and sparred with them, but Im finding that Im begining to imatate them and add it to my own way of fighting(not completly copying, but adding bits Ive found useful).
I think this is ok, but im a bit worried about bad technique etc etc, I dont want to be doing somthing and not fully doing/understanding it properly? what do you guys think?, also did anyone else find this in their earlier days of training?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

definitely take what is useful to you... if it works then without question add it to your arsenal. follow up on it though when it comes to technique. do your research. talk to instructors.

I do that a lot too! I have been around a few martial artists in my life and I allways seem to steal there techniques... I mean why not? it works, it looks cool, its not expected and.... stuff. But yeah i beleive it is a necessary learning experiance.
