Believe it or not, alot of people are like that and it is completely normal as well. i have not been hit in the head a lot personally. my assumption would have to be experience that helps.

You're not supposed to catch punches with your head. block it

If you want a different perspective on getting hit, try the old block counterstrike idea. Spar with someone and just defend yourself against kicks and punches. While doing this, watch for telegraphing moves. It gets easier and easier to defend yourself and you loose your shyness for being attacked. Once you can defend yourself, start with block counterstrike sparring. Find your comfort zone, block and set yourself up close and inside or block and set yourself up to the outside. Have your opponent throw ony round house punches or straight punches and see what works best for you. Play around with it, have fun and see what works. It's a decent drill if nothing else. Let me know what you think.

And about the teeth thing.. can I just put a mouth guard on every time I walk out the door just to be safe
I remember back in the second grade I was playing tag with some kids and I was running with my mouth open laughing, then out of nowhere I slipped on a patch of sand went face first across the concrete like I was sliding into home plate and chipped my tooth. I swear the feeling was like running your nails down a chalk board. I'm sure a lot people on this site have seen American History X with the infamous curb stomping scene, thats the only other thing I could compare it to . Now when I fight in Muay Thai, getting punched in the mouth is nowhere near the pain I experienced when I fell down like that. Still have the chipped tooth to this day. I get more fearful of breaking my nose than anything though, I like my nose.
