  • Fights on YouTube and other vids

    Greetings All;

    Part of my mental training is to watch actual fights that were caught on camera and posted on Youtube or some other forum.

    Most of my co-workers think that I am sick and violent prone.. L.O.L.. Maybe most martial artist to a point )

    Seriously, I like to watch how people get into fights, the dynamics of personal combat and movement and use this knowledge for self-defense.
    I find a lot of value from watching NON-Sporting event combat.

    I am curious if anyone else is on the same page...

    Take a job as a Bouncer/Doorman. I did my brief stint in that arena, and it taught me pretty much everything I need to know. Specifically that violence is ugly, horrible, and depressing. You probably won't want to watch videos of it after that.

      Yea I watch some to see just the average guy's natural teknique (no ma experience). From what I've noticed they're two.
      1.) wannabe boxer
      2.) blind swinging

        Yes,

        I have served my time as a bouncer/security.. You are correct violence is ugly. If you are not in the correct mind frame to handle blood, and broken bones you will get hurt...

        this is why I study these vids. Understanding how to control your adrenaline rush/fear, while thinking clearly, tactically and making sound decisions while under deress.

        My fascination with this started years ago in Philly and I saw some guys get beat up for stupid reasons. The worst part was watching one of these guys get smashed in the face with a steel pipe..

        God, I had never seen so much blood flow out of a person and with such force. I almost lost my lunch.. Anyway, this image stuck in my mind.. I have alway thought, what could this guy have done to not get sevearly hurt..

        Could he have run away? or could he have had better awareness? or could he have been a better fighter with real technique.. This image has been my motivating force for training in the martial arts..

          I wouldn't say those kids are wannabe boxers but kids with shit techniques.

              To a point it can be interesting, and educational but I think I learn more (and certainly have more fun) by watching professional (or at least amatuer) fights. The simple fact being that trained fighters have superior skills and techniques. If you're talking about armed combat (other than Dog Brothers style competition) I have no desire to watch people get shot or sliced into cold-cuts.
