To mentally prepare for a fight is simple, RELAX. I fight in the ring thai boxing (which can be very brutal) and I am always work up and fearful before each fight, hence tense and emotional. So I really try and work it out of me, by just relaxing and realizing it really is just another training session (anybody who has fought will agree with me), and all that fear and tension leaves you after the bell rings, blows are thrown and the adrenaline-filled fun begins. So to mentally prepare is simply to relax and remain emotion-less (think of the Bruce lee saying from "enter the dragon"- something like "relaxed, but not tired") I got to say too, that the guys I fear the most in the ring aren't the one's that act all agressive and intimidating before a fight, but the one's that are relaxed and calm.

Before I go to a Karate tournament, I always prepare myself mentally. I use affirmations eg. telling myself continuesly that I'm going to win. I meditate before I leave. I visualize scoring points, winning and being presented with a medal and visualize anything else to do with winning. While I visualize, I try to feel how I would feel in the situation.
