If you dont feel like yelling, try saying little comments, such as after landing a good hit saying "you might need some ice on that". This will help unnerve your opponent, buy letting him or her know you have plenty off gas left to fight (not to meniton his frends will here and be less likely to jump in if you have plenty of fight left).

No offense to anyone but those are some amusing strategies.
Most notably I thought this one was the most amusing. .

His friends will be less likely to jump in?? Maybe if they are 15 year old bullies.

Charge back at them and hope your quicker at landing the first blow?
I could imagine two people charging and getting a double K.O.

Charge back at them and hope your quicker at landing the first blow?

Hey guys, interesting post here. I'm no expert but I think screaming might interfere with proper breathing during a fight. I most people (although not all) would not need to scream for purposes of building adrenaline as it usually builds up in the face of a threat/ confrontation. In any event, isn't adrenaline your enemy during a fight? Doesn't it tend to disrupt your normal thought processes and reduce fine motor skills? Also, perhaps screaming at (or taunting) your opponent in order to scare them might actually have the opposite effect on them. That is, it could fuel them to go harder at you, which would not be good. Not trying to offend, just stating my take on the whole screaming thing. Please let me know if I'm deluded in my thinking. I won't mind! =)

Generally most are taught to use the yelling type to teach them to exhail during attacks, but if you can do that while fighting to inhail to gain energy and keep yoru stamina up and exhail to increase the power of the attack without making a sound, then that's good and you should enjoy that you can do that because some can't. As long as you have a good breathing technique to maximize your fighting potential, then being quiet is good, it keeps others from seeing the fight and being able to gauge your fighting ability, keeps minimal people from becoming spectators and getting hurt in case the fight moves quickly, and it lowers the potential for his allies in the area coming to help him and hender you.

I make no noise and ppl cannot tell that I am breathing. Making a noise would make me lose my focus. If I had to choose a noise it would be grunting and growling. When I do katas or patterns I hiss for breathing (kenpo habbit from my dojo). That is about it unless they make us say ki then I lose power in my strikes. I don't think when I fight so it does not matter if the other guy is kiing. One of my friends sounds like bruce when he spars (maybe on purpose). I wonder if being totally silent is unerving. Thats ok I don't need to unerve for the fight should be quick. I feel nothing in sparring/fighting for some reason. If somone kis or makes a noise my instinct is to hit the jaw.

I just not long ago read things on street fighting. A lot of professional fighters lose because they try to make the noise thing which warns apponents of ur attack and because they can't handle up close fighting and rather do lots of fancy kicks and all. They said the simpler and the stronger the attacks, the better.
