The football team at my school before every game box eachother and one of the players has bullied people ever since we were in middle school and now in the 12th grade noones ever put him in his place. He has always treated me like shit, he does not know I powerlift or have any martial arts experience, he thinks im a "pothead" because im really layed back even though i dont smoke weed. Hes 2nd place in state wrestler, weighs 171, benches 275, squats 350, so hes not very weak. Hes got a really bad temper and he wants me to box him because he thinks im a pussy and ive finally stood up to him. Im going to box him next friday probably and I wondered if you guys had any boxing tips. I know how to punch correctly but not specifically boxing technique; And yes we are going to use boxing gloves not bare fists. BTW Im 5'8" and 145, very lean, I also wrestle and run track. I have had no boxing experience but I have had Karate and Taekwondo experience. I think my quickness comes into play because I do very explosive workouts and I have alot of speed.

You dint give a height for the guy you're matching up against. I'm assuming that he's a whole lot stronger than you are. I've never taken TKD and it seems that most clubs don't do a lot of full contact sparring, so if you don't know what its like to be hit, get some gloves, get a mate, and get hit. Let your mate hit you (not hard enough to whip your head back) and let yourself get used to being hit and still keeping up your guard. Most people find it very awkward being hit even lightly at first. I cannot stress the importance of not flinching during a fight.
To tell you the truth it sounds like your truely rooted. If you haven't had experience with ring fighting and you're fighting a much stronger opponent then you should seek other avenues (ie back down). If not then basically get used to being hit. Sounds like you're pretty fit so try to tire him out. Don't throw too many punches at the beginning. Try to let him wear himself out, let him punch your guard (which is where your mate hitting you helpfull). He probly won't go for too many body shots (because most people with no experience in boxing don't) so a decent guard will probly pull through. Pick your moments, bob, weave, slip like theres no tomorro, and at the end of the day if your ass ends up on the floor for 8 then who gives. Just give it your best. If at any time you feel like your getting hammered just go all out throw away technique, unload as hard and as fast and as long as you can. When you finally can't (if you don't get knocked out in the process) then you are probly screwed. Hope its helpful, theres not much point in detailing other things. Do some reading and researcho n the net to learn some things, then test them out.
The biggest help will be you sparring a mate.

You've got no boxing experience and you're going up against a stronger opponent in boxing. That's not smart kid. I'd pull out if you can, train for a while and then agree to meet him at a gym to keep this a clean fight. But if he corners you and there's no escape....
Do you have head gear, gloves and mouth guard?
Some points.
1. Make him eat many, many solid, hard jabs on the chin, on the nose and in the 'bread basket'. Did I mention to nail him with hard jabs on the face and body?? You be the aggressor. You're the hunter. Once he respects your jabs after you've nailed him, punish his body with 3-4 punch combos.
2. Keep moving then UNLOAD then KEEP moving. This is called stick and move in boxing.
3. Move sideways and slide in at angles. DONT go toe to toe with the bigger man. Don't let him back you up, ever! You move sideways or in at 45 degreees.
4. Keep your hands up at all times, but keep em coiled and protecting your face with your hands, your ribs with your elbows.
5. Do you know if he's right or left handed? Watch out for his preferred power hand, and counter him AS SOON as you see his head or body unprotected. Make him pay.
6. Last but not least, bring a couple of your friends to back you up!! If his friends jump in, you better have some supportive friends backing you up!

David,
Ever heard of a suicide mission? Because that's what you're in for... All the karate and TKD techniques in the world will not save you in a boxing ring. And you have to fight this guy next Friday—As Tom pointed out, I would seriously consider backing down... No sense in getting knocked out for pride.
If you're seriously buying into the "David and Goliath" myth, which coincidentally matches your name, you are badly mistaken... There's no way you can be ready by Friday, so drop out or get knocked out... Either way, let us know how it turns out...

Well I know what your feeling kid..In high school I was Lankey at best..I had been boxing for a time..and I like you didn't back down from bullies...that being said.
Your opponent...
-Bigger
-Stronger
-Experianced
You
-Quick
-Decent reflexes
-no experiance
It's a tall order my friend. As much as I hate to tell you I have to agree with Tom and Smith on this one if you have the chance step back, get a rain check and prepair yourself, there is not benefit in giving the bully the satisfaction of laying another person down.
That said, if you decide to go through with it my advice would be this.
1. Don't stop moving, your speed is your best asset if you try to trade blows with this guys you will be on your back.
2. Bullllies in my experiance are cocky, once he stops to taunt you or run his mouth during the "bout" press him. As soon as his guard drops and his mouth moves, in a smirk, a comment to his friend anything...stick the jab it will wake him up.
3. Don't try to brawl with him..if your boxing your boxing, don't just through haymakers throw safe punches the worst scenario involves you over comiting and loosing your balance.
4. Dodge...don't try to counter punch if he is that much bigger and stronger, using your speed to get out of the way with both frustrate him and tire him.
Add to that what Tom said and Good luck.

well fortunately/unfortunately the football guys dont want me to know about the boxing thing they do since its "top secret" and they dont want to let me box. Im gonna keep asking though, even if i dont box him i want to box some people because i just like wrestling and fighting. Ive been in several fights in my life and i love to wrestle and its just a rush. You were probably right id get knocked around and hurt but i know his strategy now. someone told me most of the football players especially the bigger guys just go all out and start swinging violently, no organization whatsoever. So how would I counter that?

Going wildly
I've done my share of boxing with bigger people who aren't trained. The person who said spar with someone is right. Get used to being swung at and hit. And then learn to jab. When they are going wildly, just give em a stiff jab to the nose. That'll make him more angry and scary, but if you sparred and can stay calm, you can just keep tagging him with the jab. If you can do that he will get frustrated and tired. Although I agree with what most everyone said, I know, from experience, that its entirely possible.

here are the steps you should follow:
1) face him in the fighting stance. Left leg forward and your body turned 45 degrees.
2) Turn around as if you are gonna do a spinning back kick.
3) but instead of doing a spinning back kick, start running as fast as you can.

ive been boxing for a couple of years now, we are only a small club so we have no other option then to spar with biger taller more expierience members. if you are going to fight this dude and he is goind all out he WILL get tire VERY quikly.
My advice keep out side of his arm length, when he breathes in hit him as hard as you can in the middle of the stomache, between your top abs and bottom of rib cage.
when he gets tired you dart around like theres no tommorow, i notice bigger people tend to hold their breathe when they get tired, he will get confused and then you just nail for a while.
hope it helps,

always look him in the eye like constantly it freaks ppl out stand not heaps close and step out of reach to the side when he attacks punch diaphragm to knock the wind out of him jabs to the nose and keep moving to make him tired quickly and make him come to u lots form your side steps so he tires quicker. Then hope like all crap that he doesn't win lol dont' get in the mind set that u can't win though kos if he isn't very experianced or even if he is he will prolly make a mistake some time... exploit it. although i'm not really a boxer i have only half taken it up recently so n e one who does boxing if what i sed is wrong correct me lol...

hahha he's 2nd.. in wrestling? Wow.. and he's THAT much stronger? and yu have no boxing experience? damn..
First off. before anything.. all i wanna say is.... This is childish
You guys schedule fights to friday and shit? Lol Here if beef is beef... it's settled then and there thats kinda funny
But the fact that he wrestles i reall dont see you winning a fight with him.. and the fact that he's good at it makes it worse.. seing if it turned into a tussling situation.. His wrestling backround would help dominate any situation..
All i can say is best of luck to yu.. Lol.. Tips.. If any
He bigger, indeed.. but he wrestles.. so you might be underestimating this guys speed here.. not might.. you definately are.. beleive me.. if he's 2nd state wrestler.. he's very fast.
Your best beat.. seeing that he wrestles is t ostay out of his reach. This guy lays a hand on you, or grabs you. Your in trouble.. but if he finds himself in a losing situation.. his wrestling techniques might come in use.. in that case.. You'll be taken by surprise if you both are boxing.. and he puts you in some type of single leg manouver
He seems known, due to the fact that he's such a good athlete at what he does.. I dont see you winning this but i do see you gaining much respect and notariety. You get a few good hits off.. maybe even leak this bastard, and lose the fight? Guarentee you won majority of anyone watching. Just dont get killed
