  • Pepper Spray

Do you think it would be a good idea to legalise pepper spray over here in the uk because of the increase in violence it would be an alternative to using a weapon and probably killing at attacker in self defence but with you ending up in prison as our justice system is so crap, or the stuff the police use thats like mace but wears off in about 5- 10 minutes, that way its fast acting and you can make your escape. I was thinking more for women then anyone else because it would also give women added confidence if they ever found themself walking home late at night.

Are you trying to keep women in the inferior gender role? One thing you do not want to do if you ever have to defend yourself is start thinking about not hurting your attacker. And if you do mace them, kickem' in the jimmi', then run.

It seems obvious to me that people generally and women specifically should carry some kind of weapon. I frankly can't believe that mace is illegal over there - At least with criminalizing firearms I can follow the reasoning, but non-leathal personal weapons? You folks are living with a way different mindset than we Americans are.

I think one of the reasons mace is a good choice for self defense is exactly the non-leathality. If a person were getting into trouble and had a pistol, that person might not be able go through with pulling the trigger when she should - whereas spraying mace would be a lot easier on her conscience - and if she was wrong about the level of the threat, there is little harm done.

I know there are people who will argue that someone can take a shot of mace and still function, or that they might take your mace and use it on you. To that person I'd suggest that the attacker isn't going to do anything with your weapon that they weren't already planning to do anyway. Additionally, if the attacker is weak enough to need a weapon, he will have brought his own.

Were not allowed mace, guns, knifes on our person longer then 3 inches, any sharp impliments at all but i always have my sharp metal nail file with me in my handbag that way its not a weapon and i can use it in self defence if someone attacks me and state i always carry it with me along with my make- up and other womanly belongings when actually i wear little make up and use a different file at home for my nails but the justice system is so bad over here anyone claiming self defence is guaranteed to be put away if they harm their attacker!

This could degenerate into a "right to bear arms" argument.

Demonic one - what happens if you are allowed to have this spray? So does everyone else. So you could just as well be sprayed by an attacker, male or female.

When thinking about this issue everyone stands in the shoes of a law abiding person with good intent. The problem is that a great many people with lesser morals will use these things against YOU.

Yes, I know law breakers will carry weapons anyway, but at least they get locked up for it if caught.

By the way, you're out of character pessimistic view of our justice system is inaccurate. I have seen doznes of people defend themselevs and go free. Its just that these cases do not make the papers.

Well if i ever move outta home in the enar future ill buy myself a doberman puppy and a burglar alarm as well as antiseptic spray its yellow spray my mum used on us when we were kids for cute and bruises and i think that would be just as effective if not more so then mace.

Let's hope not - In sheer futility those are second only to "My style roXXorz your style" discussions.

You know, I'm thinking that a three-inch blade is plenty long if you're willing to use it - especially with a little kali-esque training.

I still hold that mace will be more palatable to many women, but that not being an option...

yeah 3 inches i knwo what your thinking "does a knife of 3 inches actually exist" and if it did whats the point lol but yeah strict strict rules over here with weapons but i think mace would be a good thing if it was legalised maybe you need a licence to have it so they can track who has it and what not like guns so attackers arent likely to get hold of it but its better then stabbing or shooting the only other alternative is hand to hand combat which is what i train but at the end of the day when it come down to life or death with weapons i think i would rather risk getting a bullet wound running away then take orders from someone pointing a gun at me or a knife for that matter, im gonna die anyways because most victims of kidnapping are murdered over here.

Come to think of it, yeah. Box cutters have blades that are under 3 inches.

Actually no, I was thinking that a sharp 3inch knife is plenty long enough for the job. I mean, we aren't trying to cut peoples heads off we're trying to hurt them bad enough or scare them bad that a 'victim' can get away.

They do exist - and I'm sure they aren't hard to find in a country that only allows that length. Heck, I'm sure you could get them on a key ring if you wanted.

If you have a dog friendly lifestyle, that's probably the best home defense of all. And you get a friend in the deal.

A little irony....your post is titled pepper spray and you're asking about an ointment for a sprained/strained area.

Actually, peppers contain something called Capsacinate (i think?) its suppose to provide soothing relief on strained muscles. There's an ointment called Capsacin that can be bought in the US, that is used for that purpose.

Don't know if its marketed in the UK

Demonic one - there you go again. Where did you get the idea that 2most people who get kidnapped die over here"?

I can 100% assure you that this is totally totally WRONG!

Strained wrist? Ice - rest - elevation. Nurofen helps too. Don't gpo for the Ibuprofen brand, its way too expensive. Ask the chemist for a much cheaper one. In the longer term, work on squeezing things to strengthen it - tennis balls, rolled up towels - anything! (no rude jokes please guys).
