  • Kung Fu

Hello guys, I'm just about to get into kung-fu.

I'm having trouble choosing a style as there is no real reliable source.
Wing Chun/Hung Gar/Choy lee fut..there is hardly any data on any of these individual styles.

Help me pick one out? I would prefer one that focuses on striking/speed.

Do you have all these schools locally or what? That's such an odd combination of choices. WC has the fewest forms and the quickest approach to learning while CLF has the most forms and one of the longest paths to comprehension.

I know I have a CLF school nearby, the wing chun/hung gar unsure. I was just throwing the names of wc/hung gar around since I knew of them.

Toronto Martial Arts Training | Kung Fu For Fitness and Self Defence

That's the site for the school I'm heading to, seem like a belt farm? It does it's classes prepaid for up to 6 months

Btw, And what was CLF made for? slow steady movements?

              Thanks!

Could you tell us why you would prefer to learn a Chinese martial art?

A chinese martial art hasn't always been my preference. I was first krav maga, although the nearest dojo is downtown. 1 hour or so commute every week. Then it was judo/karate, but upon further research, I just didn't like it anymore. Now I'm just looking in my area, and found a few 'schools'

As long as you know the chances of finding a kung fu school where you will learn purely practical skills for fighting are slim. Especially with wing chun it seems. It's not so much the style, but the teacher/student, though if you went with western boxing you'd be better off.

There is San Shou, which is a chinese martial art with all the fake pretty stuff taken out. There is also other proven styles like Muay Thai, or even weopons based arts like escrima.

So maybe a better question is, why are you taking martial arts?

Well Tokyo Kid, I want to thank you for your sincere answers.

I am taking martial arts to better myself physically/spiritually/mentally.

A good kung fu school should help you in the physical and mental parts, but if you're looking for spiritual, you're going to have to look somewhere else.

Because Kung Fu and spirituality have never been associated before.

Who ever heard of Buddhism/Taoism to be associated with kungfu.....

Well once again we see just how little information about the CMA's that Jubaji Jr really has to base his posts on.
