why not make one out of wood, a good cheap training knife can be made from a hickory handle and they can be found at your local hardware store. or if you want something a little more real get a piece if 1/4'' steel what ever length and start grinding just dont put bevels on it, instead roll the edges over. Both are cheap, quality training tools that can last a lifetime.

It would be safer if you made one out of paper and wrap the blade with aluminum foil to make it look real.

Oh yah, and while your at it why don't you just give up MA and and take up craft making with your granny. And don't forget to lock yourself in a room and cry.

I make aluminum training blades and sell them at a good price. I have sold several on ebay and seminars. I have sold over 300 blades to date. I will give you and anybody else interested a good deal.

Just as good as any of the posts you have made. I was only stating what I use for practice and why ( i like hickory for partner and steel for solo knife manipulation). Why don't u try telling me how I'm wrong instead of just saying I am.

                  Blades

I use aluminum training blades. A few reasons why.
They are lighter and easier on your training partner.
Metal has a whole different look and feel than wood. If you get used to seeing the flash of metal thrusting at you in training, the flash on the street wont freak you out. Cant say the same thing for wood.
You also know what it feels like to have the metal hit you. Same reason as before. Just because you get cut, does not mean the fight is over.
There are several sites that sell them, just type in training blades for a search and you will find a few. Of course you can get them on the Sayoc site.
As long as you train, it does not really matter what you train with. You can have a rolled up piece of paper about blade length if you want. So if your budget says paper covered with reynolds wrap so be it. Just train.

WWW.sharkee.com You gotta check these out, there are new revolutionary blades. Plastic. You can also get some that will mark up your clothes; simulating that you have been cut or stabbed.

                      I suggest high grade aluminum.

Wood can splinter and break, not to mention it doesn't really feel like a knife in balance and weight. Steel is heavy, but poor for training blades because it can chip off if you spar, same with low grade aluminum.

You can find training blades everywhere from Sayoc.com to Bloodsport.com, but I suggest you ask your instructor or go to a martial arts shop so you can feel and test the quality of the blade before you pay for it and realize it wasn't worth the money.

                        Blades

The Sayoc Blades are 6061 aluminum. Great quality. No bias there though. I have ordered two new trainers from Keen Edge and will let anyone that wants to know what I think about them when I get them. If you want to get really creative, you can find some .25 thick 6061 T6 aluminum and make your own. All you need is some basic tools and lots and lots of patience.

Or a friend who's into fabrication

My instructor makes our trainers out of T6 so I'm lucky. I think he uses a bandsaw and a belt sander...not sure.

Nothing new here. Marking is also pretty old idea. You can make plastic ones by yourself, easy way.
Good for sparring and defences although it's hard to train drawing with them.

You can wear a white tshirt and use a hilighter marker for that...

Plastic IMO breaks too easy and it's a bit light.
