People are always saying that you cannot be a Samurai in modern times. What about the people who are born into a Samurai Family. Would you not call Haruatane Chiba Sensei a Samurai? I believe that you can be a Samurai in Modern times, all you have to do is live by the code of Bushido.

whats partly wrong with society is that people want to live in anachronistic fantasys instead of simply admiring the past for what it is...... history!
yeah the samurai were graceful and very skilled, but they were also elitest oppressors who would cut your head off if you didn't stick your face in the dirt as they walked by. You think serving a daiymo would be great???
lord--- "Samurai, I need you to perform an action that is cowardly and will disgrace you and the clan and afterwards you must commit Seppuka to cleanse your families honor"
samurai-----" uh ok boss no problem!"

I agree, despite the other people and their comments. So long as you go by the code, and perhaps be a member of a certain faction. THere are still factions today still being upheld. Also, not all samarai were negative oppresors or ruthless killers. As in everything else, the past is still upheld today. But with any change, change occurs elsewhere. By this I mean that an old-time samarai doesnt exist in knowledge, but the samarai is still kept with today in the people who still follow the standards and codes but in modern times.

I think that if you try to be a Samurai by the dictionary definition I beleive it is impossible.
n1: a Japanese warrior who was a member of the feudal military aristocracy.
I think that following the Code of Bushido doesn't necissarily make you a Samurai, it sure didn't in fuedal times. There is a lot more to it, and its not possible to attain now. Thats okay though, they had thier day and I don't feel the need to be one.

Tang Soo Do for those who dont know =
60% Soo Bahk
30% Northen Chinese
10% Southern Chinese
TSD is both a hard and soft style, derriving hardness from Soo Bahk, and soft flowing movements from Northen Chinese systems.
edit:I cant belive i bought into this ^lies, lies. TSD is shotokan with a Korean name and an emphasis on hip movement.
