  • Most dangerous art

Ok, so I want to become ELITE in martial arts. I've always had a knack for fighting, even though I've never had any training. I guess it's in my blood But seriously, I want power, and I don't want to take something such as TKD. I need something that's viscous, effective, and soemthing I can spend a lot of time on perfecting (like becoming an MD instead of an EMT. MD's are better in the long run, while Emergency medical technicians are only good for a quick burst -- like boxing)

So what arts would you suggest? I've heard Kenpo is really good, as well as the ninjitsu arts. I think I might have to stick to something more standard though (instead of ninjitsu) because I'm not going to have any dojo's near me in college.

I figure if I start now, I can get at least 3 months into it so when i attend college I"m not a total newbie.

I've never trained in martial arts before, and I am 17 years old. I want to start as soon as possible, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Your suggestions are too vague. You said you want power and effectiveness. Many arts are powerful and effective.

Yes, but which is the best?

I know you've probably heard this question a lot, but seriously think about it. For example, bujinkan budo taijutsu has Masaaki Hatsumi, who is 76 years old,a nd could kick most 76 year old TKD practicioners asses, not to mention people younger than him.

I mean come on, TKD isn't an art. From what I've experienced, they spar and learn how to score points while in the ring. I'll never attend a seminar downdown ever again for that.

It's like boxing vs. martial arts. Boxing you have limits, where in martial arts you don't. So martial arts and the different arts are like comparing each and every one to boxing and martial arts again.

Does this make sense? There has to be some sort of martial art that's better than others. LIke ifyou were going to fight the strongest man in the world, what art would you pick?

Any art will do. Spend a couple of years learning the basics then branch out to cross training.

That’s all relative. A grappler will tell you bjj or some similar art is the best. A striker will tell you boxing/muay thai is best. A traditionalist will tell you karate/akido/kung fu is best….

So martial arts and the different arts are like comparing each and every one to boxing and martial arts again.
          Umm…puff puff give?

          Does this make sense?
          Not really...

See my comment above. It’s all relative. Try fantasizing less and seriously ask yourself what you want out of an art. Do you want to be a striker or a submitter or a combination of the two? (if I can use a word like submitter…) There is no one great super deadly art that is going to make you a hard a$$ one strike killing machine. Your dedication and effort in training will determine how hard you will become.

I'd suggest looking at martial arts like karate and kung fu as they are all about punching an kicking, and then supplimenting them with a little bit of grappling/wrestling knowledge like aikido. Basically you'll end up with your own "style" as to which attacks and moves you like best.

It's what you make of it and How hard you practice. You make the art the art does not make you. You gotta practice harder and longer than your enemys. Spend a couple of years in one Art then branch out and cross train.

There are no deadly arts... only deadly men...

If I had to kill 10 trained fighters I would want a silat man with me. And a couple of very sharp knives! Pentjakers are slick, stealthy and lethal...

Never bet your life on empty handed arts!

If you ever had to kill your own food you'd know that guns work well in the right hands too.

None of that is for "fighting" so if you just want to PLAY you should try Judo Big men fall harder...

                    Or at least I try.

Are you tired of all the other trolls? Looking forward to fresh meat? I admit it's getting old seeing the same troll leftovers.

Troll, troll soup, troll stew, fried troll, troll burger, troll loaf... A new troll might be a refreshment!

I don't think he is a troll. I think he is a "I wanna kick ass and be able to kill people, like NINJAS and stuff!" He thinks hes tough and he wants to learn to be tougher so he can be a big bad alpha-male show-off.

Darkoato, these are not the right reasons to get into the martial arts. You obviously just think its "cool" and "violent" and want to be able to "kick ass". People like you shame the martial arts, its not just a way for angry people and tough guys to learn to **** people up.

Calm down, look inside yourself for a second and see what you are really doing this for.

-Because your mad that mom and dad split up?
-Because the chicks will think you're cool?
-Because you wanna be able to kill people "n' stuff"?

You have to understand that these are not valid reasons to begin martial arts training.

None of those things apply to me. If I was "tough" and wanted to mess people up, I'd use guns and knives... right?

Just because I'm more aggressive than the average person DOESN'T mean I'm one of those wabba-be "kool ninja kids". I think people like that are stupid, because they don't know what they're looking for, and tend to think if they do a martial art that they will become good just because they're in it.

I also think it's pathetic that martial artists are supposed to represent the good in life, and everytime I ask a question on a forum like this, I get shot down, or accused of being something.

I hate being labeled something just because of my own personal views. After all, aren't the arts supposed to shape you as a person?

I'll post more when I get home
