    this goes back to my post...i agree with this.
    you dont fight FROM stances, you dont CHAMBER your fist on your hip when you fight. you dont BLOCK an incoming attack.
    all of these are misunderstandings of kata in my opinion.
    (no i am not claiming to be an expert in kata)
    I may be off base on this but it was also my understanding that Choki Motobu heavily modified the kata he practiced and taught as well - it is possible that his kata reflects this "hands up" posture rather than hands at the waist thing as he apparently included grappling type maneuvers and other modifications to the ONE kata he generally taught.

      Actually he started learning karate when he got some students
      His favourite and I believe only kata was naihanchi
      His fighting gamae isn't found in that kata
