    Training Alone... By Johnny-sama - 06-19-2008 07:50 PM

    =========

    I'm on summer vacation, and I seriously am craving for some training! I'm still a beginner, a 9th Kyu in Bujinkan, so I'm not sure what I should train in. I've tried shadow grappling, but it's nothing like the real thing....

    Help?

    I do not do ninjutsu but I have had times when there was noone around but me and I had to train alone and this is what I did and maybe it would be good for you or maybe not.If I was alone,often outdoors,I used to imagine being attacked in various ways and do like a kata or shadowfighting,making the same moves I would try to do in reality.I also used to find obsects such as stones,tires,logs etc. and throw them over my shoulder so to have more power for throwing techniques.This is no substitute for sparring or instruction from a teacher,but it did pass the time and I actually felt it improved my ability somewhat.

      Practice all types of ukemi and what you know of the Sanshin no kata and the Kion Happo. Also try practicing flowing from one kame to the other as all movements in the bujinkan are this, for example ganseki nage would be from shizen to ichimonji to kosei, musha dori would be shizen to ichimonji to ihen to shizen. Training on your own is actually essential in this art as most of what you will learn you learn yourself. Hope this helps.
