Hello, brill forum, ooo one dedicated to JKD

I have been doing JKD for about 3 months now im really enjoying it. Im understand all the physical side of JKD but its all the contreversy over JKd that im confused on but lets not get into that.

Any back to my question. Is my instructer under Guru Dan Inosanto?

Also would this make Mel a 2nd generation Bruce Lee student?

I don't quite understand your question. The website says your instructor is under Dan Inosanto. That would make him 2nd generation from Bruce Lee. As far as whether he can teach JKD, presumably he would not have been certified under Inosanto unless Dan thought he could teach it. If you are asking whether your instructor's lineage is legitimate, it appears the answer is "Yes."

Well ill ask him tomorrow if he is certified under dan inosanto to teach JKD.

On the front page it said Jeet Kune Do concepts, would this not suggest he is certified to teach JKD?

Would "methods" not include JKD?

I got this directly from the website. For some reason I couldn't click on the links with my mouse but the tab button worked. Anyway, here's his qualifications.

The M.C. Kali Group is a branch of Rick Faye's Minnesota Kali Group U.S.A. and has been in business since 1994. The school is owned and operated by Melvin Corrigan.

Mel has practiced various Martial Arts for over 25 years. He is a certified instructor under World Famous Guro Dan Inosanto in Kali (Philipino Martial Arts) and Jun Fan Gung Fu (Bruce Lees Martial Arts). He is a Certified level 3 instructor under Sifu Rick Faye of the Minnesota Kali Group U.S.A. He is also authorized by Larry Hartsel (who is one of the late Bruce Lee’s original students) to teach his methods. Mel's most recent achievement was becoming a coach in Combat Submission Wrestling under Sensei Erik Paulson, the World light heavyweight Shoot Fighting champion.

His name appears on Dan Inosanto's website in the instructors listing. Rick Faye is also in that list. So, I guess you can say his lineage is both 2nd and 3rd from Bruce Lee. Since he has training with Dan Inosanto & Larry Hartsel which makes him a 2nd gen instructor, he also has training under Rick Faye which makes him a 3rd gen instructor. What I find weird is if he is certified by Dan then why does he need to be certified by Dan's pupil? Anyway, the guy is legit in the JKDC world anyway.

Maybe he is just getting as much experience as he can.

It sounds as if you are having some doubts or reservations about your instructor's knowledge and/or ability. Maybe you can spell out either here or through private e-mail what is prompting your doubts.

To be honest i have no doubts. Its just i am new to all this MA and MAs in general and there is a lot to take in. I want to see an outsider's view on the experience of my instructer because my view will be bias because im gonna say my instructer is the best .
