From what I have read T of JKD I believe the some people are calling JKD a system, This is what Bruce did not want and by giving it a name he was afraid this would happen. I aslo have a question on individuals vs. styles? If bruce lee Happened to be in karate or tae kwon do he still would have been a bad ass martial artist because that was him. By taking things that work for your self from other arts isnt that somewhat the theory of jkd?

I agree. Your teacher can teach you the techniques but only you can train your mind and concentration. The way you think defines the way you fight.

I agree with you about the fact that Bruce did not want his philosophy to become a system, which if you notice, many people treat it like it is one. But you have to remember that JKD is a philosophy and ever growing concept of martial arts, while Jun Fan Gung Fu is a set style that Bruce Lee invented by mixing Wing Chun, Boxing, Savate and other styles. Most people don't know the difference between these two, just because you practice JFGF doesn't mean you practice JKD. I think that Bruce was an extremely talented martial artist, maybe he would have been a badass if he studied another style, but, that is a matter of speculation. And just because you mix styles doesn't mean that you practice JKD. There are plenty of traditional styles that mix several systems, it depends, if you just pick and mix you are still just practicing a style. It is the motivation behind your investigation that makes it JKD or just another hybrid art.

At first bruce did refure to jkd as a system. In an interveiw he said he was having a new system drawn up and boy it was good and he called his system jeet kune do. Later he faded away from that thought then more that it was just a name so that it to would not be seen a a set path to train by. Thats why both concepts and ojkd have a place. Then the person has to develop the rest. For there own self.
